A San Diego tradition since 1969, the Brigantine has received many accolades in our 40+ year history: "BEST SEAFOOD", "BEST CASUAL SEAFOOD", "BEST HAPPY HOUR", and even "BEST SWORDFISH IN THE WORLD", according to USA Today - just to name a few.

Well-known for our signature Clam Chowder, Grilled Swordfish, and Crème Brûlée, the Brigantine is a favorite among locals for consistently fresh seafood, succulent steaks and grilled meats.

With an updated nautical decor, the busy Oyster bar is hands-down the local favorite. Lush flowering foliage outdoors creates an elegant dining experience on one of two charming patios.

The La Mesa Brigantine serves dinner 7 nights a week, lunch Monday-Saturday, and brunch every Sunday.

Well… we frequently dine here, so it surprised us this time that the food was not great. Usually we give it 5stars, but last night was different. Our server was good but interrupted us every 2 minutes (not kidding). Our food was not the quality of what it usually is. My fish was overcooked and really no taste. Ok the mashed potatoes are normally good but I’m not exaggerating when I say these were literally out of a box! Absolutely disgusting!!! Dessert was ok, the brownie was barely warm and not even good! I think it is time to rethink our “go to” restaurant. I’m sorry to have to post this but I just had to speak to!

We choose to sit on the patio because it is too noisy inside. This is the case in many restaurants, not just the Brigantine. We do not patronize places where we have to shout to be heard; it is not pleasant; it is not healthy. We want to enjoy our food in peace and converse comfortably with our friends.

The Brigantine is our "go to" for a local dinner out. The consistency of food quality and freshness of their seafood is something we can count on. We have been dining at the La Mesa Brigantine for over 30 years and will continue to do so. Great people, service, kitchen and bar!

My husband and I celebrated his birthday with wonderful winr and fabulous food at Brigantine , La Mesa CA today. Our server, Josh, was excellent and showed a wonderful combination of being accommodating and giving us our space. It was an added positive getting to know Josh a little. He is a great server and a very personable addition to Brigantine's staff.

Went to dinner with my daughter. Enjoyed our time and our entrees. Our server Joey was great and attentive. He was good about describing the entrees and helping with our selections.
