From building society, to bank, to BEAR – this ornate old banking hall site on Derby’s Iron Gate stood empty and forgotten for 9 long years… until we came along.BEAR Iron Gate, Derby sits slap-bang in the centre of the city’s iconic and beautiful Cathedral Quarter; the original hotspot for high-quality food and drink. Opening in 2017 following the success of our Uttoxeter store, the progression to Derby seemed natural for BEAR, as our two founders spent a lot of time in the city as teens, so they have loads of fun memories attached to the place.
Located on the first floor of Derby’s vibrant and buzzing Derbion shopping centre, this BEAR store has bloomed off the back of the incredible success of our gorgeous spot over in the city’s Cathedral Quarter. We wanted to bring some of that familiar High Street character to the centre, and we’ve done that by sectioning the vast area in to smaller, cosier sections and added comfy seating, as well as softening our usual warm colour palate slightly to compliment the light, airy atmosphere of the mall.BEAR Derbion is a snug little haven that you can use to escape all that retail hustle.
BEAR Ashbourne is housed in the historic ex-Bennetts department store, breathing new life in to the space whilst taking care to preserve any historic architectural features that remain. BEAR was born on the Staffordshire / Derbyshire border, so investing in such an iconic location in Ashbourne feels like a great way to pay homage to the space and our history across the two counties. From brunch to burgers, and coffee to cocktails, BEAR Ashbourne is open 7 days a week and has everything you need to move from day to night. ✨
