Our concept is simple – providing our customers with the best quality fish, cooked in front of you, in simple and classic ways. Our central location in Borough Market means that London’s best produce is right on our doorstep. We are proud to say that we source most of our produce from Borough Market itself, and our fish is delivered daily from our very own fishmonger, Jarvis, which is renowned for its extensive range of the freshest fish and seafood. Poppie’s is renowned for authenticity – and it’s little wonder, with born and bredEast-end proprietor, Pat ‘Pop’ Newland, at the helm. Pop’s career in the fish and chip business started in 1952 when, aged 11, he got a job on Roman Road cutting up copies of The Daily Mirror to wrap fish and chips in. Pat 'Pops' Newland has been serving authentic British fish and chips in London since 1945, and from this he has recreated a restaurant serving one of Britain's best-loved dishes in a friendly setting, surrounded by authentic 1940s/50s memorabilia lovingly curated by Pops himself. Our menu includes sustainably-caught mouth-watering fresh fish cooked in crunchy batter, served with golden chips and classic mushy peas, prepared on the premises by our onsite fishmonger. You can also try the seafood platter, pies, chicken, or traditional east end classics like jellied eels, followed by traditional, indulgent English desserts such as sticky toffee pudding and apple pie. Poppies in Hanbury Street was Pop’s first restaurant and the one where the journey began. The retro-diner and takeaway is close to Pop’s heart as it brought 70year old Pat out of retirement. It fulfilled his lifelong dream of opening an East End chippie and a desire to offer customers a taste of the old East End.

    Nice new Mayfair Chippy near Harrods ......took a little bit of time to take order but food came quickly once ordered . I had the classic fish and chips and it was excellent . Piping hot and both fish and the chips excellent . I had a large glass of their cheapest white wine and I thought it was perfect to go with the meal . Very impressed with the fit out of this new location and overall it was a great visit with the staff friendly and attentive . As I then went on to watch Spurs win in a Europa League match it put me in a really good mood !

    We had a very lovely late lunch at this restaurant. The steak was well cooked, and very flavoursome, however a small point to feedback is that I would have preferred the steak to have been served whole, instead of individually sliced….personal preference though, and it was still very tasty. Lovely ambience and attentive staff. Would recommend and return. Thank you!
