WHO ARE WE?We’re the second generation of two Greek families that came to Canada to open some of Vancouver’s longest running restaurants.Now, we’re taking everything we’ve learned from them to offer a brand new dining experience.WHAT ARE WE ABOUT?Loula’s is the Greek nostalgia of our upbringing infused with modern dining trends that have intrigued us. The atmosphere and cuisine are an homage to our namesake, a woman dear to our hearts who always leaves you in good spirits with a full stomach. Thomas Makris, from the Island of Skopelos, fell in love when he met Helen Babalos. They met at Orestes Greek restaurant in 1974, while on a Greek dancing tour of North America. Soon after their marriage, they had a vision to open a place like no other in Vancouver; a Greek restaurant where everyone is family; where everyone receives a consistent experience created by delicious homemade authentic food and impeccable service. In 1984 they opened Anatoli Souvlaki in north Vancouver. In 2011 their sons Alexi and Iani took over the restaurant and early 2015 they expanded on their parents original dream, in a new venture with their cousin Daniel Bergman, Alexi and Iani opened ‘The Greek by Anatoli’ in Yaletown. ‘The Greek by Anatoli’ focuses on small share plates or “mezze”.
Selene Aegean Bistro is the newest venture from the family that brought you the Michelin guide recommended Nammos Estiatorio. “We're incredibly excited to introduce Selene to the Hastings-Sunrise neighborhood,” said Yianni Kerasiotis, co-owner of Selene. “Our vision is to create a unique, elevated dining experience for this city. Selene will be Greek cuisine with an exciting blend of culinary influences from all across the Aegean coast."Selene's menu features locally sourced seafood and dishes inspired by the culinary traditions of the Aegean region, with many exciting twists. Guests are encouraged to order a range of dishes from our extensive menu selection, which are best shared family-style. They had a dream of combining the food of Greece with great service to add some Mediterranean style to the North Vancouver restaurant selection. They opened in the sleepy neighbourhood of lower Lonsdale and lived above the restaurant to ensure the quality and service. They were able to create a North Vancouver staple, a successful thriving restaurant based on faithful patrons and a reputation that has been passed through generations.In 2011, the family-run restaurant was taken over by their
sons Alexi and Iani. In 2015, the brothers, alongside their cousin Daniel Bergman, expanded on
their parent’s dream by opening The Greek in Yaletown, with a focus on mezze-style dining.
Now open in Gastown. The Greek is a reinterpretation of the North Shore's iconic Anatoli Souvlaki.
