56 West Smithfield was founded by a family of winemakers, with a passion for creating unique, hand-crafted wines. Our family vineyard, Château De La Cômbe, is a small, boutique vineyard in Provence. Determined to make exceptional reds and whites in a region renowned for its rosés, we spent years lovingly restoring the chateau and estate, rebuilding the winemaking cave with state-of-the-art equipment and re-planting and tending to the vines. It wasn’t long before our organic wines began winning international awards – a testament to quality winemaking in Provence. Eager to share our wines with the world, we partnered with like-minded, family-owned and boutique wineries to bring our rare and wonderful wines to you at 56 West Smithfield, without costly intermediaries.
A taste of South Africa. Vivat Bacchus is a South African restaurant and wine bar, offering sustainable, seasonal menus along with an impeccable South African wine list.Whether you’re dining with us, hosting a party or wedding in our private spaces, taking a tour of our wine cellars or cheese rooms or joining our regular wine events, we’re all about simplicity and consistency – good food and great wine, time after time. We feature rare breed meats, grilled to perfection, making us one of the best restaurants in Farringdon. The decor, slightly industrial with open ceilings, exposed pipes and ducts creates the feeling of being in a working winery and an unpretentious, no nonsense atmosphere. Fans whirring in cheese rooms and wine cellars stocked to the brim leaves one with no doubt where the focus of the business lies.

In August 2014 we opened the doors to our shop and bar in the Victorian arches beneath the Holborn Viaduct. There is history here, the site having served as a wine cellar for over 150 years, most recently as Oddbin’s fine wine store.During the day the vaults serve as our office, warehouse and tasting room, as well as shop where the general public can buy our wines. At night it becomes a beautiful, atmospheric, candle-lit wine bar.In the bar we charge £14 corkage on the retail price, except between 12 and 4pm where no corkage is charged. Our list is ever changing, not only showing wines that we import ourselves but also wines that we have tasted and are passionate for, supplied from fellow importers. We also offer a small amount of old Bordeaux, Burgundy, Port and Madeira from our private cellars.
French food doesn't always have to be formal. Back to the classics that we know and love, done well. Dining is a social affair, Fondue, Raclette & plenty to share during the season. We've carefully curated our cheeses and offer a range of French ingredients.
