Ernest's Dining Room at NAIT has been aptly described as the "jewel in the crown" of Hokanson Centre for Culinary Arts in the School of Skilled Trades. Ernest's decor is described as "understated elegance". Tasteful compliments of cherry wood and brass highlights, a beautiful rock feature wall, muted lighting and attention to detail provide the room with a distinct corporate ambience. Critically acclaimed and numerous accolades identify the "haute cuisine" prepared by second year Culinary Arts diploma students as "outstanding". OpenTable diners voted Ernest's top 100 in Canada for two consecutive years. Seasoned chef instructors emphasize the importance of using high quality local regional products. Mastery of traditional cookery combined with contemporary artistry has resulted in a truly electric cuisine. Elegant service is provided by eager Culinary and Hospitality students. An emphasis on etiquette and authenticity is encouraged through the guidance of professional mentors.

    Our overall experience, from stepping in to Ernest’s until we leave, was excellent! The pasta and the cod were incredibly tasty, and the matcha dessert was outstanding! A big thank you to all the student chefs who made a delicious meal for my daughter’s 21st birthday. We will definitely return and highly recommend it to others!

    The food was excellent as was the presentation. The servers great, not far away when we a question. They knew most of the answers to our questions and a couple of times had to find just a bit more information which they did. We had a great evening.

    We were told portions were quite small... This wasn't really the case. We ordered the trio (app, entree and desert) for $32 was an extremely good deal but even for a heavy eater it was a lot for lunch. All 4 of us ordered separate items, to see a variety of options. The appetizers were good not great overall. The main entrees were very good. The beef and beets was what I ordered and I would go back for it. The smoked chicken was extremely good and the Salmon was cooked perfectly. The deserts were a little different. I more so enjoy traditional recipes rather than alterations to classics, which was the case. Food value was very good. The ambiance early on for lunch was a bit dead in there but got quite busy later on. I would definitely go back.

    We went there for our wedding anniversary. The service was from the students but it was heartwarming and food was excellent.
