A rural public house serving local beers, Berkshire gin and ciders, as well as a great wine selection. Bar snacks and full meals available 7 days a week. Cooking over a central grill makes for great theatrical cooking from our open-plan kitchen, overseen by Head Chef Nick Galer. Whilst a subtle Basque feel will permeate throughout, its roots are firmly founded on those of a classic English pub – so while featuring top end Basque dishes fit for a destination dinner, it also offers simple pub snacks for a light lunch… while the food may be inspired by the Basque country, the ingredients are local… and while the wines may be sourced from Iberia, the beer is very much English.The crowning glory is the sensational open kitchen, with a huge, CHARCOAL FIRED parilla grill and a BRICK OVEN as its centrepiece and all in front of the guests – very visual and very theatrical. We always have an excellent meal and experience at Clays. The food is absolutely delicious and there is a lovely atmosphere, with a warm welcome. I highly recommend visiting.

My brother and I took my Dad out for a birthday lunch. We had to reschedule to meet in Reading last minute and Cote had availability. We arrived at 1.30pm and got given a choice of tables, we chose a lovely round table by the window and had such a lovely lunch. The service was immaculate, really attentive without being too much, food was delicious and delivered in good time but not too quick, and the ambiance was excellence. The maitre d’ clearly took pride in running a slick service and really couldn’t have asked for more! Fantastic, thank you.
