Grotta di Fuoco, which translates to Fire Cave, is an industrial, rustic space with subtle lighting, raw steel, reclaimed wood, and concrete finishes. Step inside, descend below street level, and enter our vision of a cave. As for the fire, our focal point is a wood burning oven right next to the bar. You can sit close enough to feel the warmth, hear the crackle, and smell the scent of food being cooked, all while being entranced by the open flame. In 1688, Joseph Haviland built a tidewater gristmill that provided the locally-grown grains to a nearby bakery that supplied farmers and tradesmen with bread. It was the first public oven in New York State. Haviland’s Old Grist Mill and the public bakery were community gathering places for two centuries. Inspired by Joseph Haviland’s noble efforts, the Haviland Kitchen & Bar has been established for our neighbors. Can't say enough good things about Beginnings. Food was great and portions very large. Many dishes can be shared easily. The restaurant felt so warm and inviting. Really decorated nice. Service Excellent. If you like Fried Chicken, the 'Yardbird" is great. Go Enjoy!!

My wife and I are regulars at Haviland's. The food and service is always consistent. The menu has something for everyone and the bolognese is off the charts good. The specials are inventive. The atmosphere is elegant and not pretentious. I think we're lucky to have this type of restaurant in our neighborhood.
