The dish, popularized in Japan after World War 2, is symbolic of both struggle and perseverance. It is both a simple dish, and a fantastically complex one that we treat with reverence and respect. Roughly translating to “Red Star,” the name “Akahoshi” is a love letter to two cities; Sapporo, Hokkaido, where red stars adorn city monuments, and Chicago, Illinois, where the red star decorates the city flag. I've been to Bamboo Club multiple times for different events, so I knew Santa Baby would be awesome. The decorations are super cute. Service was quick, food was great, and it wasn't noisy at all (I went at 4:30 on a Wednesday).

Service is always impeccable and quick. On this visit, we were provided a complimentary taste of an umeboshi digestif and a N/A Arnold Palmer-type digestif. That made this visit extra special. December special was especially delicious!

Overall, the best restaurant I’ve been to since moving to Chicago. The appetizers were phenomenal, the main courses felt a little short, but still we’re good . And I did notice that they forgot to give us our onion soup and sparkling water we ordered

The food was very good. I am Cambodian myself and I loved how the chef used the flavors authentic to Cambodia and put her own twist on it — like the bone marrow plate. We did the “A Tasting Journey Through Siem Reap” with 5 courses and not 1 was disappointing. Well worth the $95 per person price tag! I would come again and I would definitely recommend this place to others!
