Had the most fabulous birthday dinner with the girls at Bar Japonais, and honestly, we're still talking about it. From the moment we sat down, our server Devonte made the evening unforgettable. After my friend casually mentioned it was my birthday, Devonte magically appeared with bubbly that was so smooth and light, we meant to ask what it was so we could make it our official celebration sip (aka girls' night fuel). A mystery we intend to solve on our next visit. Devonte guided us through the menu. Standouts? The salmon hand roll — generous and satisfying. The spicy tuna maki? A flavor bomb. The chicken and steak skewers were juicy perfection. Only slight miss was the tempura — a bit meh, so next time we’re doubling down on the spicy edamame. Dessert? Yes, we ordered all three. Because birthdays. The unanimous winner was the chocolate cake, which was light, refreshing, and dreamy. Oh, and Devonte? He sang happy birthday when the desserts came out. A server and a performer! We’re already plotting our next reservation, whether it’s for another big celebration or just a weeknight lychee cosmo (shout-out to the bartenders for mixing magic).

I first discovered the Pearl Dive on a whim when I was visiting DC ahead of moving here. It has to be one of the most fortunate gastro discoveries I’ve made in my life. This place has never disappointed, and I’ve brought family, friends, and my girlfriend here to much delight. This is a rare spot, where the food is amazing but gives good value for price. The vibe is sophisticated but relaxed. You could come dressed up or casual, and still be happy. The staff are welcoming and attentive. The food is mind blowing if you’re a fan of seafood and good southern vibe cooking. I recommend always the oysters both cold and hot, and the blackened catfish is also a personal fave. As a European I have to also say that the wine list is outstanding and pleasantly priced. Make the Pearl Dive a must if you’re in DC.

We always enjoy our visits to Mi Vida! Whether it's the shrimp and crab guacamole, the tacos, or the Carne Asada, everything is consistently amazing. Our waitress, Kate, always greets us with a smile and provides attentive service. We'll definitely be back!🙂
