After closing for 2 weeks for an interior refurb the pub now has a fresh and clean new look. The creation of a proper snug is part of the change and is available for private hire for small gatherings or family occasions. The rear barn has also undergone refurbishment and is now a wonderful room dating back to the 15th Century with oak beams and flagstone floor folding doors open out on to the rear courtyard and river Stour beyond. The barn forms part of the restaurant but can also be made available for small functions and parties of up to 20 - 25 people.

Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

The seasonal menus focus on provenance, showcasing the best of local Kentish ingredients, sourced directly from local farms and producers. Magic another wonderful evening at Number Nine, great menu, good choice, Full of flavour and well presented, at a easy pace for those of us who cannot force food down our neck. with time to talk to your companions. The staff are well versed on the menu and can offer advice, The wine list is excellent with wines to suit every pallet, with knowledgeable staff to help you find a wine to complement your food. This was a wonderful evening So good we booked for Valentines day. Cannot wait for the new sharing menu for that evening, I am sure it will be excellent as Normal.
