In 1688, Joseph Haviland built a tidewater gristmill that provided the locally-grown grains to a nearby bakery that supplied farmers and tradesmen with bread. It was the first public oven in New York State. Haviland’s Old Grist Mill and the public bakery were community gathering places for two centuries. Inspired by Joseph Haviland’s noble efforts, the Haviland Kitchen & Bar has been established for our neighbors. The ambiance and service were top notch, and it’s nice to have an urban vibe here in my neighborhood. My only complaint is that the tables are a bit close together which made it very loud. This was prime time at 7pm on a Saturday night, so perhaps I’ll try it during the week. The scallops and Branzino (fish) were both delicious, and they make a good cocktail. I’ll definitely be going back.

I had a wonderful experience at dinner. They had a special offered on Tuesday nights which was just delicious and plentiful and was an amazing price point! A neighborhood gem. I’ll be back.
