Since the middle ages the elegant porticos of Bologna, Italy have a meeting place for the public as well as a place for business. Paolo Pedrinazzi (who is from Bologna) and Kat Escamilla, owners of the new Portico trattoria , bring this experience to Sebastopol. They even have monthly Regional dinner parties with live jazz.The setting includes an Italian fountain on their cozy patio. Portico offers light table service and counter ordering. Fern Bar’s Saturday night vibe is lively and the menu matches with a creative mix of our favorites like Fried Chicken, The Greens, and Smashburgers with unique seasonal entrees for vegans, vegetarians and meat lovers alike. An example from last night? The Roasted Savoy Cabbage, a wedge served on a bed of Beluga Lentil Dal with Delicata Squash rings, cashew cream, pickled onions, tamarind and cilantro all on a fresh crispy Dosa wafer. I’d tried it once before and seeing it on the menu again I didn’t need to look any further. Savory, creamy, tart, sweet, crunchy, all the things. A unique and sensational dish!
