Ospi is the sophomore restaurant of Jackson & Melissa Kalb, focused on Southern Italian cooking and way of life. The name derives from ospitante (“host” in Italian), with the expectation that guests will feel as comfortable at Ospi as they would at a friend’s dinner party. There will be plenty of house-made pastas as well as an expanded offering of pizzas. The beverage program crafted by Kalb features mostly Californian and Southern Italian wines and a full bar with a special negroni section. At Ospi, the pizza is inspired by the techniques of Antico Forno Roscioli which Jackson and Melissa frequented while visiting Rome. The restaurant was super busy, and yet the staff from the receptionists to the wait-staff were amazingly efficient and helpful. The Cadillac Margaritas were excellent, as was the food we ordered (guacamole, street tacos, poblanos relleno, Tres Leches Cake) We were impressed by the attentiveness and helpfulness of our waiter, Jose! Extensive menu and we hope to explore other items in future visits There is no valet parking, and a sign directing one to public parking near the entrance would help - street parking (free) is available, but it took us a while to find a spot.
