Sète (named after the coastal town in France) is a wine bar, shop, and kitchen. Our doors opened to the wine bar in October 2022 and the restaurant and garden in July 2023. The seasonal menu focuses on modern European cooking with a heavy French influence, highlighting the best produce Kent has to offer. Wine is certainly at the heart of what we love. A luxurious spot designed and built by Vacuum Studio featuring a highly pigmented colour palette inspired by our global travels. Lighting is low, volume can get high and the intimate booth seating is a perfect facilitator for conversation. Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

Gave 5 stars to everything apart from ambiance. We were there at lunch time with only a few other diners, so was difficult to tell. Will absolutely go there again, and again, and again. It’s a necessity…..I need to try so much more of that menu.
