Giovanni's Trattu may be the only restaurant in DC to capture the feel of Venice. Formerly known as Trattu, this cozy little restaurant provides the lighter cuisine of Northern Italy, which is known for its unique flavor. The extensive menu changes every fall, winter and summer. Seating 60 in the main dining room, Giovanni's Trattu is candlelight at night and it entertains guests with friendly style of service, providing classic Italian music. Highlighting the ambiance is a collection of colorful pottery and venetian masks that hangs from the walls. Giovanni's Trattu is ideal for private parties, business lunches and dinners, romantic dates and family celebrations.

Excellent in every way. I had the delicious fish stew from the menu. My wife had the grouper special. The prices are very good, especially given the high quality of food and service.

My wife and I tried out Giovanni's prior to a show last week. Giovanni's reminded us of being back in some holes in the wall that we've found in NYC. Pros: Our server, Nyla, was very attentive and had great customer service. The gnocchi with meat sauce melted in my mouth and my wife really enjoyed her escargot. Cons: Interior would benefit from updating. Too many servers in masks. Suggestions: Noise dampening; double the wine selection

This was a disappointing dining experience. The reviews had it as one of the best! The decor and restaurant is dated and needs refreshing. And a good cleaning Pasta was not house made. Average. The calamari was below average and the sauce thin and cold We would not recommend or return

A small intimate and inviting trattoria. Giovanni is charming and thoughtful. The food is delicious… great pasta, shellfish and veal. The service was prompt and not intrusive. Great time and at a reasonable price!

It’s a smaller place but it has a homey vibe and you can tell the food is made with love. Definitely get a reservation for peak dinner time.

Cute restaurant in a subterranean location. The staff are very friendly and make you feel at home quickly. We enjoyed our server, Nala and the manager/owner, Enrique, once again. Enrique is such a warm and fun people person too and goes out of his way to make sure you are happy with your dining experience. The food is excellent, from the light and crisp calamari with a delicious marinara sauce to dunk them in; our wonderful pasta dishes, one with a mushroom cream sauce and the other a fine melody of seafood, pasta, and broth; and finally two delicious desserts. Everything tastes delicious and fresh and the coffee was warm and tasty too. Can’t wait to go back!
