Hayes Street Grill is a neo-traditional fish house in San Francisco's Civic Center district, across the street from the Performing Arts Center, opposite Davies Symphony Hall and a block from both the Opera House and City Hall. We use an international mix of recipes, unified with a theme of fish and seafood. Above every other consideration, we want the freshness and pristine quality of the fish, produce, and naturally-raised meats to speak for themselves.

The Hayes Street Grill's walls are covered with autographed photos of the artists who consider the restaurant their club. Though we've remodeled since our opening 33 years ago, the original brass coat hooks along the walls remain, as does our founding philosophy of cooking only the food we would serve at home to our families, albeit dressed up a little, with a religious dedication to wholesomeness.

Our dinner was improved over what it has been the last few years. I do not know if it is a new chef, but it was quite tasty, hot and fresh. Good job.

Food and service were excellent as usual. The skate was particularly good, the best I’ve ever had it anywhere. But actually, everything was delicious. A very pleasant place to eat,, Where one can have a conversation over delicious food in a relaxed setting.

I love Hayes Street Grill for its reliable fish and great fries and try to get to it on regilar rotation. Long-time staff is reliable and attentive.

It is astonishing that Hayes Street Grill has maintained its standards of excellence for so many decades. The fact that they continue to deliver such delicious, high quality food at peak pre-theater hours is equally impressive. Every item on the menu sounded delicious and what we picked tasted even better than it read. Kudos to them.

Always a wonderful experience with excellent food and attentive staff even when jam packed with ballet and symphony patrons who have come early!
