From building society, to bank, to BEAR – this ornate old banking hall site on Derby’s Iron Gate stood empty and forgotten for 9 long years… until we came along.BEAR Iron Gate, Derby sits slap-bang in the centre of the city’s iconic and beautiful Cathedral Quarter; the original hotspot for high-quality food and drink. Opening in 2017 following the success of our Uttoxeter store, the progression to Derby seemed natural for BEAR, as our two founders spent a lot of time in the city as teens, so they have loads of fun memories attached to the place.

Located on the first floor of Derby’s vibrant and buzzing Derbion shopping centre, this BEAR store has bloomed off the back of the incredible success of our gorgeous spot over in the city’s Cathedral Quarter.We wanted to bring some of that familiar High Street character to the centre, and we’ve done that by sectioning the vast area in to smaller, cosier sections and added comfy seating, as well as softening our usual warm colour palate slightly to compliment the light, airy atmosphere of the mall.BEAR Derbion is a snug little haven that you can use to escape all that retail hustle.

The Friary is situated just on the edge of Derby's lively city center. This bright, vibrant and fast paced venue is the place to be for students and revellers alike. The structure is traditional but the Decor is very, very modern. Purple walls with orange borders and the Submarine grey fire place in the games room with astro-turf may give you a heavy indication that at this venues core, it's a Sports Bar but you'd be wrong. The Menu matches the ambiance of the Friary perfectly, everything you'll need for a visit here. Wings, Sharing trays and bites such as the Sloppy Joe Hash Brown Bars which are hash browns topped with beef in a smoky BBQ sauce, bacon, grated cheese and spring onion. Fancy a sweet dessert?     Fantastic champagne breakfast! Menu is excellent, some really gorgeous dishes! The service is exceptional and we were made to feel very welcome. We loved the Christmas decorations too! Our second visit for our anniversary and we will definitely return! I think this could be a regular for us! Thanks to all the staff who looked after us today! X

    The staff were soooo friendly and welcoming. Service was amazing and food was out reasonably fast considering it was busy. All the food tasted amazing and fresh and we'll definitely eat here again!

    Excellent as always, nothing too much trouble for the staff and always pleasant and attentive. Food was excellent, we had the 9 course tasting menu which was wonderfully amended to suit my wife's intolerances. Every course was a delight. Has to be one of the best restaurants, if not THE Best, in Derby. While it remains this good we will continue to return.
