The indoor columns and sepia photos on the walls harken back to an eatery right out of Italy. After opening in the early years of the new millennium, Joseph Tambellini Restaurant quickly gained a reputation of offering a real slice of Old Pittsburgh. As it turns out, this wasn’t just in relation to pizza. The art hanging on the walls, elegant curtains, luxury lighting, and white tablecloths all harken back to the time when dining out in the city meant guests dressed in their best and made an evening of it. While the menu at Tambellini doesn’t offer the traditional pizza experience, the parmesan vitello features common ingredients one would expect on their favorite slice. This location maintains the fine dining atmosphere and Italian architecture features that are present in its sister locations. Of course, the pantone yellow color and whimsical signage nestled amongst typical strip mall stores does stand out a bit. Wednesday has specially priced martinis, and the pepperoni, chicken + spinach, and margherita pizzas are all worth writing home about.
