Manicomio Chelsea opened its doors in 2003. It is set on the buzzy Duke of York Square, set back from Sloane Square and the iconic Kings Road. Housed in a historic Grade II listed building that was formerly the Royal military asylum- the origin of Manicomio’s playful name (Italian for madhouse).

Renowned for serving simple yet elegant Italian food in the attractive dining room, bar and – weather permitting- the expansive terrace. The adjoining Manicomio Café offers a pared-down version of the restaurant’s menu- available to enjoy in either the café, conservatory, courtyard or terrace or as take away.

Manicomio’s enthusiastic passion for all things Italy- with a strong focus on provenance, quality and taste - has seen the Manicomio family grow to two more successful sites, each with their own identity- Manicomio in St Pauls and Canto Corvino in Spitalfields.

PREJUDICE MANAGER KICKS ENTIRE FAMILY OUT DURING CHRISTMAS OVER A DESERT!!! After racking up a 170+ GBP bill in the restaurant, which is customary for us over the hundred of times we have been, which we were more than happy to pay for, we were suddenly accused of trying to scam the restaurant out of a mere 11 GBP because we sent back a new desert on the menu which the waitress recommended which my wife and I found lacking taste which I then expected as is customary in every restaurant in world to do which is have it be taken off the bill. When I surprisingly saw that they didn't I naturally brought it to the waitresses attention thinking it was a mistake which she then said she would then speak to the manager about instead of just taking care of it herself which is usually what waiters and waitresses do when it's such a small amount. Instead of obliging her the manager 'Andre' approached me hastily saying that they were removing the service charge from the bill as well. After asking why, he said that it's because they don't want me to come back again and continued by saying, in front of my WHOLE FAMILY no less, that its because EVERY single time I came (which now must run into the hundreds of times) I sent food back and because of that they no longer want my business anymore. When I asked where he got his false information from he said they have my whole history in the system and it shows there. And when I refuted that claim and asked for proof, he refused to show it saying that that information was confidential, after which he changed his story again and said that its actually information given by a waiter in June (8 months ago) who left a note on my profile about how I had sent a dish or two back during my visits to the restaurant in the summer when visiting from Dubai which must have been 10 times at least all together during our stay. Instead of taking that as an opportunity to see why a longstanding client might have been so dissatisfied with his food

This is lovely healthy food, well balanced selection of flavours Note, I was surprised how tasteless the side of tomatoes was and how few of them, plus the garnish of basil was insignificant. The fish was executed perfectly although could have been served hotter. The panacotta was good but could have done with slightly more freshness and flavour.

The service was appalling .. we were only two but it took at least 3/4 an hour to even be asked if we wanted to order …we arrive at 7.45. I have often been to Manicomio but this was the worst . Food ok but nothing great ..

Enjoyed a lovely supper on the hottest day of the year. Although I had reserved a table inside (to escape from the heat), when I arrived I was told that they were not seating anyone indoors. I however very quickly got over my disappointment and was ultimately glad to have sat outside on such a nice evening. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was its usual high quality.
