                                                              The Metuchen Inn is always a wonderful dining experience. We took friends for dinner to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary. One of our friend’s dinner came out with his halibut fish, very dry. The waiter made good right away and brought out a bronzino dinner instead. Only negative I can say is that we had to ask for bread.

                                                              Our first time at the Metuchen Inn and we are sure to return many more times. The ambiance is delightful. We sat upstairs near a fireplace. It was quiet so we could all talk in a normal manner. The food was delicious. So glad we tried this restaurant.

                                                              Perfect place for our party of 6 old friends to have our annual Christmas get together. The atmosphere was cozy. The servers were pleasant, the service was efficient. When undecided about 4 potential choices, the server recommended the short ribs. They were extraordinarily tender and flavorful without being greasy and fatty. The portion was perfect.

                                                              Given it was Thanksgiving day, I do not think the noise was necessarily indicative of a normal dining experience there but will find out the next time we go. The entrees and appetizers were delicious! The desserts were not. Service was wonderful, especially given how busy they were! We are definitely returning.

                                                              He had a nice Thanksgiving dinner. The pork chop with gravy was very good as well as the lamb chops and turkey dinner.. The crabcake and scallop appetizer were both very good. It was a very busy holiday, a bit hectic but food came out quick. NOTE: This is for people with flower allergies: My only complaint is the amount of flower arrangements in the restaurant. There had to be over five just in the bar area. Several very large centerpieces on the first floor. My dinner companion and I have allergies so this set them off. Stuffed nose, headache and sore throat. My sister carries an Epi Pen, coming to this restaurant would’ve put her in the hospital. I talked to a few people about this and they said people want to smell the food, not an overabundance of flowers. Most restaurants have one flower on the table in a small vase and usually an arrangement when you walk in, which is plenty. I have never seen so many flowers in my life in a restaurant, and I am not talking about the poinsettias because those do not bother the majority of people. So sadly, even though I find this restaurant very charming, we will not be going back due to flowers, It’s not worth feeling crummy for a day afterwards.

                                                              The restaurant itself is beautiful, nicely lit outside and tastefully decorated inside. Service was slow. I was seated before the rest of my party and indicated I’d like to order a cocktail as I waited. Despite this, and the fact that the restaurant was relatively empty at 5:15 on a Friday, multiple servers walked past me with no acknowledgement whatsoever. After five or ten minutes, I flagged someone down and they became our server. Service was friendly but inconsistent. As I said I waited a long time to even be acknowledged and we waited a long time to place our dessert order. Pacing of the food was fine. The food was ok. In my opinion it fell short of what the restaurant is trying to be (white tablecloth service etc). We ate and mainly enjoyed the food with one exception, the lobster bisque tasted nothing of lobster and vaguely of queso. It was removed from the table and our check with no issue. I’ve never heard of Parmesan cheese in lobster bisque but apparently that’s what it was. Since it was a special, it wasn’t described as such to us. We ordered the short ribs, the venison and the lamb. All were fine but nothing exceptional. I don’t feel the need to go back. There are better options at that price point. Dinner for three with apps, mains, two desserts, one cocktail, one glass of wine was about $340.
