   Although I had been to Metzgers before and had an excellent dinner with very good service, this was a complete departure from that previous experience. We arrived at our reservation time of 7:15 pm, but did not depart until 10:00 pm - not because we lingered over our meal and conversation, but because the service and delivery of food was so poorly executed. I had ordered a drink, which took almost 25 mins. to appear and only because I had to ask the waitress several times - then the bourbon I selected was not in stock. We had ordered two appetizers, one arrived after a lengthy delay, but we never received the second order, with no notice or explanation. My entree finally arrived, again after an absurdly long delay, but my two guests did not get theirs until 15-20 mins. later. We received an interim, gratis order of spaetzle, midway into the meal to salve our concern about the lack of food arriving - this was near ice cold. The desserts we ordered took a considerable amount time to arrive, as well, and the one offering was supposed to be warm, and it was cold. Our waitress was really poor - it was if she was intentionally avoiding us. Frankly, I would not recommend Metzgers as a suggested dining place, unless the aforementioned issues are ameliorated.

   Can't recommend this place enough. We go monthly. The food is outstanding. The service is always friendly and personal. The menu changes constantly so there's always something exciting and new to try. If you haven't tried the schnitzel yet, you're missing out on life!

   Absolutely wonderful meal! The staff was fantastic, the food was delicious, and there's a wonderful vibe inside! We will be back again! Top 5 restaurant in Richmond

   I’ve been wanting to try Metzger for the last 2 years. It was amazing. Everyone in our party of 4 was very pleased with apps, entres, drinks, and especially desert. We definitely plan on coming back.

   The cocktails were amazing but they always are. The food was very good. The smoked oysters were not what we expected but make a great starter. Flavorful but not too heavy. The pork schnitzel was nicely done — not too heavy and the toppings were perfect. The steelhead trout was cooked perfectly. The only thing was pacing between courses. It is a wait. We didn’t mind but I think it affected turning tables. We got the check just as we were finishing dessert. Not what you want. I bring it up only because we eat quick. We don’t linger so when we go past that 90 minute mark, isn’t on us. That said the drinks and meal were pretty great so the check thing wasn’t that big of a deal.

   I'm not sure what happened. We've been to Metzger several times and the service has always been excellent but last night it was anything but. Ordered our meal and 3 minutes after the apps arrived, our mains arrived - brief apology for the "kitchen running fast tonight". After that, it took our waitress over 30 mins to stop by to check on us. She dropped off dessert menus and then never came back. 30 mins later we had to ask the bartender for our check. And the restaurant was only 1/3 full. 2.5 hours for one course meal. Just an odd night - maybe they were trying to close early or train newbies? Food was good tho I would not order the cabbage again - just too bitter on bitter for us. 😢

   One of the best brunches in Richmond. We had the pork schnitzel which is seriously magical. It is light and crispy, not greasy and not heavy. My grandmother was German so I’ve had a lot of schnitzel and nothing quite like this. The gravy was also incredible providing the right level of richness. Our group had the brunch special, a strawberry salad which was seriously tasty and refreshing, and then the crepe to finish. Cocktails were very good, including the mimosa which is normally too much OJ. This was the right amount. The coffee cocktail was impressive (and could sneak up on you!). Service was great. Bar was a bit slower than usual but miles ahead by comparison when you factor in that it was Easter. We were not rushed out even though we ended close to closing time (didn’t realize until later when we looked at the hours!). Candidly most places aren’t that understanding. Can’t wait to come back. Already planning a return trip.
