Visited Okane to celebrate my mom’s birthday, especially after seeing numerous positive reviews from Instagram food content creators. However, the experience was underwhelming, especially given its Michelin Bib Gourmand status. We ordered the Jalapeño Popper, Crispy Rice, Shishito Peppers, and Mixed Tempura as starters, followed by the Beef Sukiyaki, Nigiri Omakase, Shinjuku Roll, and Rainbow Spider Roll. Unfortunately, none of the dishes stood out or impressed us. The service was also disappointing; we almost finished our rolls and nigiri before the wasabi was brought to the table. Overall, it didn’t meet our expectations.

Super disappointing all around. Service was just weird, the server barely spoke to us and looked like they would rather be anywhere other than that restaurant. The pacing of the food coming out was really drawn out, especially for a sushi place that wasn’t particularly busy on a Friday night. The service staff kept looking at us realizing it was taking a long time for the food but didn’t communicate anything. The food was fine but by no means good. The quality of the ingredients (like the wagyu on the shinjuku roll) was good, but the texture of everything was really soft and the only flavor that came through was a bit of smoke. The Ginza roll was fine but similarly mushy and lacking any flavor other that the taste of the tempura. The sukiyaki had lots of bone shards in the meat and was good but very sweet. The karage and gyoza were fine but just like you’d expect from any neighborhood sushi spot, If the service was even remotely friendly we would have left being like “that was fine” but the sum of the experience really felt like we wasted our evening. It’s one thing not to love the food-it wasn’t horrible, but the vibe felt like they were doing us a favor letting us eat there.

This is one of our neighborhood gems. Each time, the food is tastier. Pricy but that’s normal SF.. and def not as pricy as its sister-restaurant nextdoor (never been).

Incredible service from the staff from start to finish. They went above and beyond to make sure we had a pleasant experience. The custom soju cocktails and omakase were both top notch!

Our sushi chef was exceptional and every piece was delicious. Apparently he also works next door at their Michelin star restaurant Omakase!

Went in on a Tuesday night 7.50pm and restaurant was quiet with only 1 other table was occupied, which was perfect ambiance for us. Was served by Kelly and we loved most of the food recommendations and her service was great. Appreciate the Chefs that made our meals too! They were made with care and precision, just what we loved about the Japanese culture. Good place if you are craving for Japanese, definitely!

Staff was super friendly and the food was delicious. Fresh, inventive and interesting sushi rolls. I could taste each ingredient. The agedashi tofu was perfect! Will definitely go back and put this in my regular rotation for sushi dinners in SF.
