Olio e Limone Ristorante, located in downtown Santa Barbara's ARTS District, serves artisanal Italian cuisine. Meaning “oil and lemon” in Italian, their restaurant’s name reflects husband-wife team Alberto and Elaine Morello’s philosophy: rely on the integrity of the ingredients and quality of the preparation to provide Santa Barbara diners “simply sophisticated” Italian cuisine served in an inviting atmosphere with European hospitality. Start with eggplant souffle, then tuck into a plate of house made duck ravioli or Sicilian spaghetti with bottarga. And be sure to take home a bottle of their own olio, an organic extra-virgin olive oil made from Sicilian olive varieties.
Bonus: their contemporary Italian breakfast, lunch & retail spot Olio Bottega, and authentic pizzeria next door at Olio Pizzeria. Private dining in the Cucina Room for up to 40 guests.

    We booked for a birthday/special occasion and were seated past 7:45, about 7:50 pm for a 7:30 dinner reservation… We also got there ahead of a party or parties who were sat before us despite us arriving before them. And again for a special occasion like a birthday this was a real bummer, on top of the host lying to us that the other parties had an earlier reservation time but we heard them all check in after us and had the same or later than our reservation period, yet again still were seated ahead of us… real unfortunate experience for a finer dining restaurant and establishment. When I called all that out back to the host, he stopped responding and walked away… The waiter also never came to our table, instead he tried to sit another party in front of us. Then the host just took over our table for the night since the appointed waiter he said would come to our table never did. He seemed frustrated that we were going to sit at a table despite waiting for it longer than we should have - that he/the waiter promised to another group he knew… but the host interrupted him since I had spoke up about the situation. There is also no where to wait, so we stood at the front of the restaurant door with approximately 3-5 groups at a time in the way and shuffling for workers and other people entering and leaving… it was something you would not expect at a “higher rated” business.

    I love their pizzeria and have gone many times. But the restaurant had pretty disappointing food. Nicely done steak but sauces on the pastas and meat were very basic and not flavorful and lacked creativity. The price and experience definitely did not meet my expectations. Average service with no checking back.

    Christmas Eve, where else would you want to be? Olio was packed with holiday diners, but we only had to wait 10 minutes to get seated. As is often the case, with a party of 4 we get to sample a couple of appetizers plus a great bottle of red wine. Service was prompt and efficient and the food was excellent. Can't wait to return...

    The food here is very good. The restaurant does not care about your comfort, however. We were seated in the outside dining area near an open door on a cold and windy night. There was a grand total of two heaters in this relatively large space. For comparison, Bouchon next door had one heater per table. I appreciated that they were open Christmas Eve, but this did not make for a relaxing experience!

    We weren’t super hungry when we arrived so some of us only ate appetizers. Our waiter Omar was attentive and didn’t seem to mind that we had mostly appetizers for dinner. He helped make the dining experience enjoyable with his happy demeanor and made us laugh several times. Our cocktails were very good and was a caprese salad we ordered. The lentil soup was too salty to eat but we didn’t send it back. Another group member had the gnocchi which was excellent. Some of the best gnocchi we have tasted. Someone tried the fish which he thought wasn’t bad but not memorable either. I will recommend this restaurant to friends and family and if I am in the area I will definitely go back for another nice dining experience.
