Poppie’s is renowned for authenticity – and it’s little wonder, with born and bredEast-end proprietor, Pat ‘Pop’ Newland, at the helm. Pop’s career in the fish and chip business started in 1952 when, aged 11, he got a job on Roman Road cutting up copies of The Daily Mirror to wrap fish and chips in. Pat 'Pops' Newland has been serving authentic British fish and chips in London since 1945, and from this he has recreated a restaurant serving one of Britain's best-loved dishes in a friendly setting, surrounded by authentic 1940s/50s memorabilia lovingly curated by Pops himself. Our menu includes sustainably-caught mouth-watering fresh fish cooked in crunchy batter, served with golden chips and classic mushy peas, prepared on the premises by our onsite fishmonger.     Fabulous environment with indoor and outdoor seating and lots of attention to detail in the decor. Food was excellent in presentation and taste. Pizza was enormous and delicious. Plenty of choice for meat, fish and vegetarian eaters - no vegans in our party so not sure how it stacked up here, but there were vegan choices. Not a large menu but plenty to choose from and all 6 in our group (mixed vegetarian and meat eaters) enjoyed the meal. Service was excellent and restaurant appeared to be well staffed. We will return :)
