The Friary is situated just on the edge of Derby's lively city center. This bright, vibrant and fast paced venue is the place to be for students and revellers alike. The structure is traditional but the Decor is very, very modern. Purple walls with orange borders and the Submarine grey fire place in the games room with astro-turf may give you a heavy indication that at this venues core, it's a Sports Bar but you'd be wrong. From building society, to bank, to BEAR – this ornate old banking hall site on Derby’s Iron Gate stood empty and forgotten for 9 long years… until we came along.BEAR Iron Gate, Derby sits slap-bang in the centre of the city’s iconic and beautiful Cathedral Quarter; the original hotspot for high-quality food and drink. Opening in 2017 following the success of our Uttoxeter store, the progression to Derby seemed natural for BEAR, as our two founders spent a lot of time in the city as teens, so they have loads of fun memories attached to the place.
