Welcome to the Puddicombe House, award winning casual fine dining in an elegantly restored 1868 mansion in downtown New Hamburg. Executive Chef Jammie Monk leads the culinary team. The restaurant has been named to the Open Table Top 100 Restaurants to Dine Outdoors in Canada and the top 100 Romantic Restaurant in Canada. I booked a garden room but the ones that are for tables of four or two are like little sheds..dry walled and not attractive at all. So we went in the dining room which was ok but not all the experience I’d hoped to share with my friends.

Puddicombe House has always had impeccable menu items, the service is pleasant, knowledgeable and attentive, and the various seating options have always been a pleasant addition to an already adorned venue and night out. Unfortunately this past Saturday we has booked a dinner date, for what we thought was a greenhouse and upon arrival we learnt that the booking was made in error for the veranda, not a cozy greenhouse. We have always enjoyed the cozy, warm, private greenhouses for a night out. The veranda option feels like it could be a great addition to the dining experiences already available at Puddicombe House, however, from this current dining experience on Saturday we felt very disappointed to share how cold and unfortunate our date was. We had jackets on, hands in our coats, asked for blankets. Three other parties that had joined us on the veranda, had asked to move indoors, as I can only assume they were also cold. Our toes were frozen, there was also a point where there was snow petering in over the top side of the glass barriers. I explained that we booked the veranda in error, and asked about relocation to one of the greenhouses, and the server was going to check but we did not hear back about this option. We also felt that a main contributor to the space being so cold is that several guests walking through the veranda to enter the indoor seating area to use the bathroom, or to leave in general, and more than once, the door to the veranda was left open altogether. Our server tried locking the veranda door near the front steps, however, it appeared that the lock must not have been working, as guests continued to enter either side of the door, uninterrupted to the lock. The service was great, the meal was fantastic, however the seating location didn't feel appropriate or fair to have guests endure such temperatures.

We sat in the outdoor veranda and the environment was absolutely stunning and very cozy. The food was the best dinner I have had in a very long time! Serving sizes are fairly small, but this restaurant chooses quality over quantity and the food truly did not disappoint. We 100% recommend this restaurant! Everything from the music to the food to the view were all a 10/10 in my books.

Went for lunch and had a pasta I'd never had before. It was delicious and a treat for the senses. Well worth it. Coffee was excellent too.
