Aburi refers to the technique of torching fish, enhancing its flavor by lightly searing it. This process not only brings out the fish's taste but also benefits from the use of premium Japanese white oak charcoal, imparting a subtle smokiness & effectively filtering out torch-related gases. Aburi involves a gentle searing, leaving the fish partially cooked.

Hailing from Houston, a city renowned for its cultural diversity, our restaurant draws inspiration from this multicultural hub. Despite our Japanese name, our culinary concept transcends borders, aiming to showcase a medley of global cuisines, mirroring the diverse food scene of Houston.

Fresh fish is flown in directly from Tsukiji Market, Japan.

I am from Japan and have very high standard of sushi. Unlike most upscale sushi restaurants who serve ridiculously over priced tiny tiny sushi in Houston, which is not how Japanese serve sushi in Japan, sushi was acceptable size , fresh here and over priced. So many interesting selections on the menu, and I must return to try them all 🤩. Our server was excellent 😊 Sophisticated clean décor. Aburi Oshi sushi wasn't really like the authentic oshizushi in Japan, but this restaurant is now added on my favorite list. Highly recommended. 👍

We love eating at Aburi. Kelly was warm and efficient as she made sure our green tea was piping hot and just the right taste level. It’s a treat to order the Tea by the kettle! A beautiful green and gold butterfly pattern adorns the outside of the kettle and the tea cup saucer is shaped like a leaf! My Nigri flight was so good but all the fish was made by searing the top. I would have liked some contrast. Perhaps a nigiri topped with a scallion and no searing. Amy loved her Don poke bowl. You get a lot of fish - 3 types- and is really flavorful. It’s topped with a beautiful piece of Asian fruit that tastes like a pear. Yummy! The ambiance of a booth 2-top is cozy and the sweet little table lamp in gold is just the right touch. Ask for Kelly and she’ll treat you like her long lost bestie who’s come into town for a good meal. Prices are consistent with all of Houston- but the price was worth the food and experience. Thank you Aburi!

Outstanding experience! The staff is super nice and attentive. The fish quality and sashimi were amazing - I've never had better yellowtail, amberjack, or salmon. The cooked food on the menu was great too - the Wagyu dish and grilled tumeric chicken were tasty and satisfying. Can't wait to go back!

First time ever eating there, now it’s become our favorite sushi place in Houston! Incredible service, incredible fresh and flavorful plates, cozy interior. 5/5.

I enjoyed a different selection from the lunch menu. I had the teriyaki chicken with tempura vegetables and rice, plus a salad. And I might’ve had a lychee martini.😝
