We had a reservation at 630pm on Christmas. Upon walking in the front door we were greeted by a homeless man who threw a glass which shattered at my feet. Were were sat by the front window by the bar with a nice view of the street. We had the 3 course meal. 1 small bottle of moscato makes for 2 half full glasses. The appetizers came quickly. The main course was cooked to perfection . We chose our desserts then was informed they ran out of chosen dessert. The other option was just as delicious. Our waiter was very nonchalant. He didn’t inform us until mid meal they ran out of our chosen wine. We had to ask for a water refill. In my opinion for a $150 per person meal the manager should have made rounds. Highly disappointing experience on a special occasion. Left feeling unsatisfied.

Went for Christmas Day dinner and overall had a nice time. We had the prefix menu and every main was good- fillet mignon, cod, and lamb were all great. Desserts were absolutely outstanding, by far our favorites. Drinks were just ok. Only downside was that we were sat right near the open kitchen so it was loud and very smoky/greasy during our meal. Will definitely go back for desserts!

This was our first visit to Ajax Downtown. I have to say, the food and service was excellent! I had the grilled pork chop with whole grain mustard and sliced apple and rye spätzle on the side. It was amazing. The pork chop was very flavorful with interesting spice. The spätzle was quite interesting with a deep flavor profile and was slightly sweet. It, with the sliced apple balanced the pork chop very nicely. My wife had the half chicken. It was lightly smoked and then flame- seared with a semi-sweet glaze that made the skin crispy and delicious. I know I am "raving" a bit here, but the chef at Ajax is truly amazing. His balance of savory and sweet made for a truly memorable meal. Our waitress, Karen was very attentive and friendly. For me the only downside was Ajax was a little noisy. Despite the noise, we will be back for sure!

With Tavernetta and Sunday Vinyl and Mercantile in teh same area, I thought this restaurant woudl be awesome. But, this was disappointing. Our drinks were good! And the service was lovely. But the food was pretty terrible. The short rib looked like it was rolled up in an enchilada and was burnt on the top. It didn’t even taste like pasta. There was nothing except for dry short rib on the inside. And the sauce had this awful, weird flavor with a weird aftertaste. The tuna tartare was just OK. The fish tasted fresh, but it was cut into long worm-like shape which was weird. It was missing something, it felt very flat. And the chicory salad was just like a heap of chicory with seeds on it. No other nuts or fruits or anything. Half of it wasn’t tossed at all. They were huge pieces and the plate was piled high, so cutting the large pieces made the salad fly into my lap. Overall, we wouldn’t return here.

Absolutely delicious! Menu offers variety with options for meat, fish, chicken, vegetarian. Layers of flavor throughout apps, dinner, desserts and drinks. Jason the waiter was exceptional. Will go back!

Menu is different than Aspen location. No thin, crispy truffle fries.. Food was fine. I dont think I'll be heading back to this location any time soon.

Greetings Amy, We apologize that our menu did not meet your expectations. While Ajax Tavern in Aspen has an amazing reputation & following, Ajax Downtown is not an Ajax Tavern, but rather a metro-based sister concept. We absolutely love their truffle fries too and get them every time we are in the mountains. We do offer our Potato Pave, which is a reimagining of AT's famous truffle fries. If you are ever curious about our rendition, we'd love for you to try it! Rest assured, Ajax Tavern's truffle fries are there to stay, and you can get them anytime you're visiting Aspen. We do change our menu Micro-seasonally, so perhaps you'd be able to find a new favorite dish as we enter late Winter and Spring of 2025. Regardless, thank you for giving us a try, and we'd love to have you back.
