Akahoshi Ramen is a humble ramen shop in the city of Chicago. Everything is made in the restaurant, including all soups, seasonings, toppings, and noodles.

We are not an authentic ramen shop, though we value the history of ramen, and our ramen is influenced by its past and its future potential. The dish, popularized in Japan after World War 2, is symbolic of both struggle and perseverance. It is both a simple dish, and a fantastically complex one that we treat with reverence and respect.

Roughly translating to “Red Star,” the name “Akahoshi” is a love letter to two cities; Sapporo, Hokkaido, where red stars adorn city monuments, and Chicago, Illinois, where the red star decorates the city flag. Our ramen is influenced by Japanese and American ideals in cooking.

We hope you will join us to enjoy a bowl of ramen, made with the respect and passion it deserves.

Van de OpenTable-redactie: One of Bon Appétit's 2024 best new restaurants in America, this Logan Square spot is the brainchild of Mike Satinover, better known as "Ramen Lord" to the fan base he built up over a decade posting about ramen on Reddit. Get comfortable at one of the spacious booths, or watch the action at the counter overlooking the kitchen, and choose from four different ramens like the Akahoshi Miso, with pork chashu and bamboo shoots. Each bowl is made with incredible attention to detail, showcasing just how nuanced ramen can be.

We had a great experience at Akahoshi Ramen. Casper was wonderful and attentive! We sat at the counter and enjoyed sipping on our delicious cocktails as we watched the ramen being made! My husband enjoyed the midwestern ramen and I had the Akahoshi. It was SO delicious that my husband had a second round of ramen. HIGHLY recommend and cannot wait to visit here again. Until then, I’ll be dreaming about it.

Delicious ramen and great service. The handmade noodles are amazing in texture and flavor, and the miso broth, their OG, was super tasty. My only complaint is that I wasn't able to try more of the ramen they offer! Can't wait to go back!

Akahoshi was definitely worth the wait. I highly recommend trying their Midwest ramen and specials. Will definitely be going back!

This was my 4th time dining here and it never gets old or stale. It’s always a fun adventure and truly tastes perfect. I brought a few new friends here and they raved about the umami flavors!

Incredible from Start to finish! The food was excellent and they were able to make pork free dishes that truly wowed my guests!

Fully enjoyed my miso ramen and side of chatsu rice. Server was exceptional and provided great explanations between the choices.

This is one of my favorite restaurants, hands down. Mike and his team are exceptional, passionate, and have fun while they’re at it, too. The menu is carefully curated, limited by design yet still so thoughtful in its execution that there is something for everybody. The monthly specials are a great showcase, but no matter what, one must try the Akahoshi Miso. It’s classic, layered, rich, and everything you’d want in a bowl. The noodles are made in house (as is everything else) and perfectly chewy. On top of that, the entire team is just really great, always so welcoming, and just a lot of fun whether talking about the menu, creative ideas, or just shooting the breeze.

Have been making an effort to visit Akahoshi every month to try the new special. The November special (a Yuzu Shio) was a very light, but powerful aromatic broth. Very refreshing!
