Edinburgh's hidden gem! Traditional oyster bar and restaurant serving fine food and a great selection of continental lagers, beers and local ales.

We're proud of our history without being complacent and we love to see a happy customer. We've always focused on making our pub unique and we are sure you will notice. So pull up a seat, take a tour round our pub and discover what sets us apart from the rest.

** Please note all bookings are for our restaurant, we offer first come first served for drinks in our bar area.

*** Please note due to licencing restrictions under 18's are not permitted in the main bar, we can seat under 18's and over 5's in the restaurant for dining. We cannot allow under 18's in the restaurant after 10pm.

**** As we are a listed building we do not have Accessible toilets on the ground floor.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal all except for an octopus starter. It was cold, had to have it taken away and were brought another one which was warm. Lovely atmosphere and would recommend.

We had a delicious meal and great service at Cafe Royal. Our only disappointment was that they were out of oysters….which was one of the main reasons for going there! Apparently they ran out because of new years. We hope to come back to Edinburgh another time and will try again.

Très beau restaurant, les plats sont délicieux et les desserts encore plus, service agréable, j’ai été conseiller avec facilité sur la bière à prendre, super.

What a beautiful place with dark wood and stained glass. A classic 19th century cafe with warm, friendly service. I started with an Edradour 10 year, then had the cullen skink soup. Very different than what I expected but delicious. The haggis nips and tatties was superb. I finished up with a tasty sticky toffee pudding. All traditional dishes, but a cut above. The serving staff was top notch, and the ambience was cozy on that cold winter night.

We only stopped in for some oysters but they were very good. Matched with an excellency Bloody Mary to boot! The history of Cafe Royal is amazing to see and read about! We will be back.
