   I reserved a table for the Mother’s Day Brunch w/ Richard Blais. My mom and I love to watch Next Level Chef together and she’s always expressed an interest in going to one of Blais’s restaurants so I thought that would be a really cool moment to give surprise her with for her special day. Now, the food itself was great — the buffet had a lot of nice offerings and the main course dishes were really good, so were the drinks. But when my dad asked our server if Richard was still around, he mentioned that he wasn’t around for long that morning, and he had been on his phone a lot and probably got pulled away by something. Huh? That’s so lame. Why advertise a meet and greet if you’re not even going to be there for the majority of it? And it sounds like even if we did get to meet with him, it seems he likely wouldn’t even had been in the moment. I don’t regret taking my mom here for Mother’s Day, but I am disappointed and a little embarrassed that a major selling point of the experience wasn’t delivered.

That said, I'm very sorry to hear Chef Blais’s appearance fell short of your expectations. While Chef Blais is confirmed to appear during his advertised events, he does manage his own time independently, and we unfortunately can’t guarantee his arrival or duration on site. We sincerely apologize if that wasn’t clearly communicated in advance. I understand how special this surprise was meant to be and regret that chef's appearance didn’t meet expectations.    I've been for tea time and then for their Christmas, Easter, and Mother's day events. On the special events they offer a wonderful menu in addition to a selected entree. Love the environment, unique food, and the service. Will come back again!

   Really enjoyed everything , the scotch egg was outstanding, as were the roasted baby beets salad, fish & chips, banger benny. Looking forward to going again. Great service, friendly and not too noisy we could actually talk.

   Lucy, James, Sam and Emma are fantastic! I have to mention all of them because they went out of their way to come to the table just to make sure we had everything that we needed. Been long time since I had such amazing attention.

   The food is a modern and refined twist on English and continental cuisine. The food is really good in general, but the service is even better. The restaurant is clean and has a fresh, open vibe. I would wholeheartedly recommend this gem of a restaurant to anyone.

    As I am a UK immigrant, you would think I’d have attended an Afternoon Tea prior to now, but I haven’t had the opportunity. That’s why I was so excited to take my daughter and her bestie for Afternoon Tea at California English. We booked it for 11:30 so we could enjoy a brunch vibe as well. We were seated promptly. The restaurant is an open space with plants reminiscent of a garden room. Very relaxing and pleasant. Our server was friendly and explained all our various options. All three went with the tipsy tea option, starting with tea cocktails. The girls chose the Mermaid’s Pool with pineapple tequila, fresh blueberry and lime. They loved their choice. I went with the Chai Tai, a delicious cocktail of rum, amaro, pineapple and chai syrup. The towers consisted of golden raisin scones, toffee madelines, chocolate tart, a miniature waffle cone with a chocolate filling, a lemon panna cotta, and finger sandwiches with a chicken tarragon salad and a spicy cheese spread with pimento. In addition to the tower feast, we ordered the hot honey fried chicken scone, lobster roll and the “Sloppy Joe” (pulled braised beef in a BBQ sauce). We had a lovely time. Wonderful food, friendly service and a pleasant environment. Highly recommend for Afternoon Tea or brunch.
