On Wednesday, February 26th, we are very lucky to welcome one of the brightest and most passionate wine minds in the US: Tegan Passalacqua. Called ‘the vine preserver’ by Jancis Robinson, using @ownrooted as his social media handle, Tegan is lives and breathes for the preservation and respect of the heritage of California old vines. Born and raised in Napa, he is the first winemaker in his family. His "day job" is with Turley Wine Cellars where he crafts some of the most compelling Zinfandel in the country. This position allowed him to work with the oldest vineyards in the state, and to become the passionate preservationist and dedicated viticultural historian he is today (he is the co-founder of the Historic Society Vineyard). It also allowed him to start his personal project in 2009, Sandlands, which will present at this dinner. Centered around Kirschenmann, a vineyard located in the Mokelumne River area of Lodi planted in 1915 with ungrafted, gobelet zinfandel that he now owns, Sandlands focuses on dry-farmed, old, historical varieties - or potential historical ones, from Sonoma to Lodi to San Benito. He makes around 19 cuvées, depending on the year, in tiny quantities, seeking to respect and enhance this incredible treasure as much as possible. It will be an incredible treat to hear Tegan’s stories and enjoy wines that are literally "encapsulated-time." For groups, we serve a prix-fixe version of our regular menu: Each guest will choose their own Appetizer and Main Course, with all of the sides served for everyone to share, concluding with Chef's Choice of Dessert. Please note that "family style" service is not available for Group Dining. For the 5:30pm & 9:00pm seatings, the fixed price of the menu is $80 per person and all beverage is billed on consumption, contributing to the overall minimum guaranteed spend of $115 per person (before tax and gratuity).
