Located just beyond the West Loop’s famed “restaurant row,” El Che Steakhouse & Bar is Chicago's go-to destination for steak, seafood, and live-fire cooking. The restaurant is modeled after Executive Chef/Partner John Manion’s fascination with Argentinean asados: traditional backyard barbecues surrounding the flame. A 12-foot custom-built grill serves as the centerpiece for this downtown asado which embraces South American-tinged meats, seasonal vegetables, fresh seafood, and of course, steak. The hearth also serves as the heart of the restaurant’s experiences such as dining at the Hearth Table.


Join us for happy hour at our cocktail bar, featuring signature cocktails and fiery bar bites or indulge in a glass of wine from the country’s only South American wine list. No matter what you choose, El Che brings the heat seven nights a week.

                                    Second time here and was underwhelmed this time. 2 supposed prime ribeyes both had heavy tendons running through them,not normal tasty fat marbling, but terrible tendons. Steak wasn't very flavorful other than heavy salt on top. Wine was great and other apps/sides on point. But this is not near same level of steak as several other prime steak joints in the city. For $100 per steak this should be about as good a ribeye as I've ever had, and I'd put this about in line with mediocre Wildfire. I'd go back and maybe try thr seafood platter, but would never get a steal here again. Service was friendly, but we ordered a salad to start, shrimp and empanadas. We barely touched the salad and the empanadas and shrimp were out taking up the entire tiny table. Just slow it down, wait for people to finish a course and then bring next stuff out, this is basic stuff and it was Tuesday not a hectic weekend, so what's the big rush?

                                    Delicious food and friendly service. Staff was quick and attentive. A bit pricey. Don’t pass on the dessert. The flan was outstanding.

                                    The Food and drinks were incredible! The surf and turf came with an amazing sauce for the lobster! The empanadas were a great starter, flavorful with a decadent sauce. The elephant in the room cocktail was expertly poured, mixed and served with a tasteful tajin around the rim of the glass. The service was immaculate and unrivaled by other restaurants of the same caliber. I proposed to my fiance at Che and the staff were so accommodating and helpful with my proposal that I made the experience even better.

                                    The ambience and drinks were really nice. The service was also very good and the waiter was helpful. The steak was not as good as I expected, especially for this price range. My dry aged "prime" NY strip steak was tough and had quite a bit of silver skin. I've heard a lot of good things about El Che so this was not what I expected. Maybe I just caught an off night. The experience was good overall but not worth it for the price.

                                    Mixed feelings about the food. The tartar was excellent as well as the endive salad. The grilled seafood platter was good but too much sauce. The bone in ribeye was ok, wish it had more of a grilled flavor and outside crust.
