With a name that means "cozy or nice atmosphere, but also belonging and general togetherness," gezellig invites guests to experience an elegant menu of local, seasonal cuisine using french techniques in a casual and welcoming environment. Located in Ottawa, Ontario, gezellig prepares each menu item using high-quality ingredients purchased locally. On the menu are items such as seared scallops, braised beef shortibs, potato gnocchi, beef tartare, duck breast, and wild-caught lingcod. Our classic butterfinger for dessert is a staple that has been on our menu since opening in 2012

The quality of the food is outstanding however the portions are too small, just a bit more on the plate would really make a difference. If you get a table upstairs be prepared to shout to have a conversation with your friends. My preferred meal here is lunch during the week.

We had dinner for six and couldn’t have had a better time, better service or better meal(s). Bekta and his teams seem to have achieved mastery here - there were so many team members serving the guests that it seemed there was always someone nearby to make eye contact and come over to help us. The food was prepared so well that we were able to relax about judging if we ordered the right meal - every meal seemed to set the standard for how it should be done. And the ambiance was perfect for a birthday celebration. I wish I could remember our server’s name - she knew the menu so very well and had a great sense of humor. Thank you!

Gezellig never disappoints, but last night’s meal surpassed our expectations. Very elevated dishes in a welcoming atmosphere.

Always the best service. Always. They know when to be present, when to let us breath, when to refill our drinks, when to clear our plate, when to bill. AND … they are present … a delight to chat with - friendly, witty, sharp, interesting professionals. That’s just the service. Food is also on point.

Beautiful space with a great buzz from happy customers. The food was delicious and staff were incredibly attentive. Thanks for a lovely evening.

Everything on your plate tastes great, and it's just the right amount to fully satisfy. Music is nice and in the background where it should be - I came for a nice dinner and pleasant conversation. Service is attentive, friendly and not intrusive. This is a good place to go for a special night. There's a lot of voices when it's really full but still has a private feel.

Tasty food, beautiful wine selections, curteous and attentive service with a smile and a lot of humor. Going back to this place very soon :)

This was my second experience and did not measure up to the first. The wait time between our appetizers and entre was extremely long. The server advised that the kitchen was “busy”. My friend’s scallops were over cooked. The server appeared marginally interested and not engaged. When asked at time of reservation if was a special occasion, I indicated a birthday. It was not even acknowledged. What was the point of asking? I expected and was prepared to pay a bill of $273 for a restaurant that claims to be a superior dining experience. This was not close. We had a lunch there and the dishes were fantastics, very tasty with good portions. Service was quick and very attentive. We really enjoy our time there! Will definitely go back to try other dishes on their creative menu!
