Nestled within the Domain Road enclave in South Yarra with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the stunning Royal Botanic Gardens sits Gilson.

Gilson’s intimate dining room is available for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week and caters for large groups and private dining events.

Gilson offers an all day menu focusing on Italian cuisine and seasonal flavours.

A neighbourhood favourite due to its relaxed setting, friendly staff, fabulous drinks list and dishes such as the ‘avocado bruschetta’ for breakfast, the ‘Seafood Linguine' for lunch or dinner, and a 'tiramisu' for dessert.

Wood fired pizza is also available for lunch and dinner cooked in the custom built oven.

Gilson's brunch service is available for walk-ins with reservations available from midday.

We have visited Gilson on a number of occasions and the service on Christmas Eve was appalling for the first time ever. After about 25 minutes we finally went to get our own menus and then had to also go and ask the woman working as front of house if she could get someone to take our orders. We then had to ask a couple of times to get another bottle of water at our table. There were just three of us and we are not very big eaters but the entrees were so incredibly small that we found there was almost just a mouthful each of those dishes. The pizza was great as it usually is and the pasta was okay. All in all it was just so disappointing as the service is usually impeccable and we are usually sharing a laugh and jokes with our waiters but this service was just dry, boring and inattentive. I hope to come back but I will not be as excited about it as I usually am.

Second time at Gilson and it didn’t disappoint. Food was excellent and service great. Great value for money.

The food is good and I was excited to come back after my last time dining here, but unfortunately this time the service was totally sub-par for an up market place. As a group of four, no one acknowledged us on arrival for at least 5 mins and then asked if we could come back in 20 minutes as the people dining before us were still at the table. We then had to get our own water and glasses and waited an eternity for orders to be taken. As I said, the food was delicious and ambience is quite nice, but certainly a fall from grace experience-wise.

The service was good, however our dining time was quite short for the amount of food and drink we ordered. Good selection on the menu. The pasta was good but the woodfire bread was a bit of a let down. It was very white in colour then quite heavily charred in other areas. Wine recommendations were fantastic!

Excellent place, great vibe, good food, some people there to be seen and a bit noisy inside but once you’ve been there - will become a favourite.
