Chef Owner, Tong Chee Hwee, former Group Executive Head Chef of Hakkasan, has returned to launch Gouqi, an Award-Winning, Fine Dining Chinese restaurant located at 25-34 Cockspur Street, St James's opposite the Canadian Embassy, Trafalgar Square.

The restaurant name derives from the goji berry, a symbol of health and vitality that inspires the ethos of the restaurant. Using premium produce sourced from around the globe, the menu offers an abundance of flavours, techniques, and ingredients. The Berri Bar offers Asian inspired cocktails and an eclectic wine list.

Gouqi seats 100 guests, including 2 private interconnecting dining rooms; Crimson & Ruby, which seat 10 and 12, or combine to accommodate up to 22 guests.

Beautiful food, exquisite presentation, attentive staff but not in your face. We went a la carte but next time we will definitely have the 5 course duck menu. We saw it being served at the table and the chefs knife skills were a joy to watch. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and helpful. Overall superb.

I have been to many Chinese top restaurants, but this is a cut above the rest. The food is absolutely superb, I could not fault a thing in that department. The staff tried their best, but probably not as polished at the should have been, despite that it was Sunday night and they did try their best. Highly recommendable.

A highlight of our visit. I strongly recommend the five course duck menu. Fabulous is all respects.

We had a very good experience in Gouqi concerning food and service. All plates were very good and in particular we retain dim sum (excellent quality of dough and products inside) and also wonton noodle consommé (very flavoury) and Hunan Seabass dish. Service was very careful and professional (thanks to Uday and to her colleague sommelier). Ambience was a bit absent as the place is nicely decorated but the restaurant quite empty and except a customer very noisy, spending his all dinner on the phone, we hadn't any distraction in particular. Despite its qualities, this restaurant has clearly a big negative point : its prices. We had a bill around 760£ (more than 900€) for 3 what is extremely high for this level of food and restaurant. Indeed we appreciated our dinner but we hadn't food and level of the place similar as in a Michelin starred restaurant. For this price, in France, we could eat in a 2-3 Michelin starred restaurant. Unfortunately, this is very disappointing as we had a good time till the bill. Maybe we hadn't anticipated it, in particular the 15% service not included in the menu's prices but anyway it doesn't represent the value of such an experience. For this reason, we won't come back or maybe we will go for the cheapest option in the place.

This is an upmarket Chinese restaurant. At lunch it offers real Cantonese Dim Sum but it is over-enhanced by colouring the dumplings too vividly. However, they taste good. It is expensive for what is offered. Service is good. Two pm is not a good time to take lunch as there were only two tables taken, one was mine. No lotus paste buns, sadly!

Not quite the experience we were hoping for . To prices for mediocre food and service . Legendary peking duck was underwhelming. Just needs to up their game to make it legendary.
