We are excited to welcome you to the YYC Food & Drink Experience opening dinner event: Knife Fight Vol. II, at Hawthorn Dining Room & Lounge in the Fairmont Palliser Hotel. In this culinary showdown Rupert Garcia of Hawthorn will face off against Matthias Fong from Primary Colours Colours in a dining experience you won't want to miss! Both Chefs won gold at Calgary's Great Kitchen Party (Chef Garcia in 2023 and Chef Fong in 2024). As each course is served, the chef’s chefs will present their dishes, and you'll have the power to vote on who takes the crown. Every guest will receive a scorecard—who's dish will come out on top? Ticket Price is $175, which includes a complimentary welcome cocktail, canapes and a 3-course menu from each chef, and 18% gratuity.

We had a disappointing experience at Fairmont’s Hawthorn Dining Room and Bar on Valentine’s Day. Our dinner reservation was for 10 p.m., but when I called ahead to see if we could get in earlier—even just at the Bar—I was not informed of any restrictions. When we arrived at 10, they seated us in the Bar instead of the Dining Room. Confused, we asked why, only to be told that the Dining Room closes at 9 p.m. and only the Bar menu is available after that. This was frustrating, as we had expected a full dining experience. While they eventually moved us to the Dining Room, we were still stuck with the limited Bar menu, which was mediocre at best. A lack of clear communication left us disappointed on what should have been a special evening.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Was there for valentines day. Ambience was perfect. Live music with a great musician playing great songs. Service was great. Food was amazing. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Had dinner and then breakfast the following day. Both were exceptional.

Hidden gem. Street parking is free downtown Sundays. A luxurious, slow paced and unrushed atmosphere, premium flavours and ingredients priced the same as mediocre and packed breakfast joints.

Really great place for a celebratory birthday dinner! The food was absolutely outstanding! And Renata, our server was a perfect blend of helpful, but not in our face. All of her suggestions were spot on. The mock tails were phenomenal… So well done! When the music started, it was live music and a bit noisier, but that’s to be expected with live music. All in all a wonderful evening.

Had a fantastic dining experience at Hawthorn! The service was exceptional, with our server Bobbie taking great care of us throughout the evening. The live music added an amazing vibe to the entire lounge, with everyone enjoying it. The food came out promptly and exceeded our expectations—every dish was delicious. It was the perfect way to spend a Friday night. Highly recommend!

The entire dining experience was incredible from start to finish. Ambiance was so comfy and romantic. Had our own cozy booth. From the drinks to the food and the service, it was all perfect. We will definitely be coming back. Thanks!

Great food and great service. The overall ambiance is absolutely beautiful. I had great time celebrating my birthday here and had a nice dinner. Will definitely recommend this place to friends and family. Will definitely come back here.
