A bright, colorful Italian restaurant, Ideale is the modern version of a traditional Roman trattoria. It is "festive and boisterous...la vera cucina italiana." Ideale has been bringing Rome to North Beach for 30 yrs now with it's highly acclaimed chef, Maurizio Bruschi. Maurizio hails from 4 generations of Roman chefs, lovingly taught by his grandma, Serafina. The pastas & breads are all homemade & the ingredients are hand-picked daily. The homemade pasta was perfect texture and the sauces flavorful. Even the beet/arugula salad was perfectly adorned and dressed. Plates of pasta were generous in size. Super Tuscan wine paired perfectly with the red sauce. Enjoyed our romantic evening looking out onto my favorite stretch of Grant St.

We had a fantastic meal at Ideale! It was a special event because the owner was selling the business to two of the chefs so the great food will continue. My appetizer was buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes as a nice start. The pasta dish I had was spaghetti with oysters. It was one of the best spaghetti dishes I have ever had, and that is saying something, perfectly cooked al dente and nicely seasoned. I hope to see it on their menu again! Finally, I had the corvina sea bass with potatoes and a fresh vegetable medley all perfectly seasoned. The desert of small biscotti was a lovely finish. Did I mention the excellent wine pairings? We'll definitely be back!

Always a great time at Ideale. Service was a bit slow last night, but we didn't mind the slower pace. We started with an appetizer pizza (amazingly good) and then split the fish dish (yum) and cacio e pepe (always so good) along with a bottle of red. Too full for dessert, but plenty to choose from. We'll be back.

Good food and nice atmosphere. However only two servers. And while they were friendly and happy and authentic Italian it was a long wait for everything. Getting seated took awhile. Menus took 20min. Placing an order took another 30…. The food came out in a reasonable time but just getting things ordered was slow. Our meal took 2.5hrs for two people and we would have happily been done and made room for more people but they were turning people away because it was full. Highly recommend the steak appetizer. It was amazing.

Ideale is a treasure! Great food and a wonderful staff. The only downside is Mauritzio is leaving to run his restaurant Serafina on Russian Hill. Parking can be a challenge, so Uber there.

Just had an anniversary dinner at Ideale before seeing a show at Club Fugazi a few blocks away. We were seated at a nice window table by a friendly Italian gentleman. He brought a tray of delicious house made bread, explained the daily specials and made some recommendations when we asked. We decided on the salad primavera, the mushroom and sausage pizza and the spaghetti carbonara. The food was delicious and the service was perfect. Highly recommend this restaurant, Five stars!
