Located in the historic Fulton Market district of Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, il Carciofo is a Roman Italian restaurant drawing inspiration from the restaurants and markets in one of Chef Joe's favorite cities, Rome. Ambiance is lively, fun, warm. Service was good. The pesto gnocchi and carbonara alone are worth going back for. We split the 24oz dry aged NY strip and very much enjoyed it, also a great value. The patata larda and sautéed mushroom sides were lackluster. Mushrooms cooked in scorched oil, not even a pinch of salt. Overall kind of disappointed with the sides. But we'll definitely be back for the pastas, maybe try the steak with the bitter green salad next time. Although we didn't try the pizza they looked and smelled delicious.

Do not go here if you have any sort of dietary restrictions, they will not accommodate you. Our server was nice enough to mark the menu with items that would work for us. My daughter is dairy free and wanted pizza without cheese and asked for arugula on top. They refused arugula stating it was already made & couldn’t be done. Ordered the artichoke app, it was soaked in oil. All you could taste was oil. Yuck! Ordered the only salad on the menu, it was drenched in salad dressing. Sent back and remade. The flavors were bizarre together, pickled vegetables with Granny Smith apples & pine nuts. Yuck. Ordered romanesco, which is a side, no flavor and several pieces were burnt. A hostess came to ask about our experience in the middle of dinner, when these issues were brought up, she simply said, thanks for sharing & moved on. No “what can we do to make this better” or ANYTHING! Why even bother asking? Very few gluten-free options, no pizza or pastas as an option. Ultimately, 2 apps, 2 sides & a pizza with no toppings…spent over $110! Total waste of time & money! Once & done! Don’t go here!

Every was very well presented and flavorful. We sat at the chefs counter and enjoyed watching all the live fire cooking.

The service was spot on despite only being open for 12 days. It is very loud. Do not come here if you are looking for a romantic dinner. The music needs to be turned down. We found ourselves shouting just to hear each other. The artichokes live up to the hype. The carbonara did not as it was overly salty. The sauce was too thick and appeared to have sat too long. The pork dish was delicious, as were the desserts. Would like to come back after the holidays to try some other items on the menu.

Arrived right at opening, happy to see other excited folks waiting to dine. Drink menu was original. Plates were adequately sized. It was nice to see Chef Flamm in the dining room! Our server Mario was wonderful.

10/10, no notes. The space was incredible, along with the service and of course the food. Don’t skip the artichoke or mortadella pizza!
