The menu choices, presentation and cuisine itself are topnotch. The staff are friendly, attentive and efficient. The ambience is fascinating and inspiring. The restaurant is located in the Berkeley City Club designed by architect Julia Morgan.

We had a wonderful meal. Everything was wonderful, with one notable exception: Salade Niçoise, everywhere I’ve had it, here or in France, includes tuna, especially here on the West Coast, seared sushi grade ahi. We searched our plate in vain. But the food was wonderful!

For those of us who yearn for white table cloths, lots of wood, an old time clubby feel, and the wonderful pseudo medieval architecture of Julia Morgan, this is the place for you. It's the kind of place my parents would have taken me to for a special occasion back in the 1950s. Love it!

I actually learned about Julia‘s on Instagram. If you are intrigued by architecture and historic buildings, you will appreciate this building. Designed by Julia Morgan, the same architect who designed the famous Hearst castle, this building is quite beautiful and is home to a hotel, courtyard, restaurant, swimming pool, events, and more. We came for the tea and noticed other patrons included grandmother/daughter/granddaughter, families, college students, and couples. We loved being served the quintessential tiered plates of tea sandwiches (including pancetta, egg salad, cucumber, tuna, and Caprese), scones, and pastries. Everyone gets their own pot of tea from a lovely variety on the menu, and you can get as much as you want as long as it’s the same flavor. The treats were all aesthetically appealing, but you are definitely loading up on carbs and can have a bit of a sugar rush by the time you leave lol. It’s fun to just walk around this elegant environment, and it’s fun to know this building from 1929 is tucked away in the busy campus environment of UCBerkeley. We got parking right out front on the street and paid at the machine nearby. Our waiter was super friendly and low-key and it was the perfect thing to do on a New Year’s Eve day afternoon in anticipation of the new year.

Once again … exceptional menu, service and ambiance. Highly recommend. One can truly enjoy an exquisite meal and have the beautiful quiet space for conversation that is not rushed.

Julia’s is located inside the Berkeley Club and the room it is in is gorgeous. Our complaint is mostly with the ambience as it was way too bright in there. No fire. No music. The lights in both the bar and restaurant were too bright and did not lend to an intimate dining experience. It seemed old and a little depressing in a way. The club you walked through was sparse and seemed… vacant? A little sad perhaps. Food was fine. Would be nice if they listed and promoted local farms.

Julia’s is a hidden gem. The building is beautiful and the restaurant is spacious and relatively quiet. You can hear the people at your table speak and this is a major plus, given most restaurants are loud and noisy. The waitress was excellent and the man who helped us pick the wine to go with our meal was above and beyond helpful. We will be back!! I highly recommend having a meal here
