Located at 699 14th Street on the coveted corner of 14th and G Street NW, La Grande Boucherie is situated on the most high-profile street in Washington D.C., just one block away from the White House. The restaurant is built in elegant and ornamental Art Nouveau style, evoking the sense of optimism from the turn of the 20th century. The brasserie’s menu features both classic and modern French dishes, with focus on the meat program, raw bar and extravagant large-format meats, ideal for sharing and celebrating. Mahogany wood and glass partitions divide the gargantuan space to create intimate dining experiences. These pieces are adorned in gilded accents and uniquely curved arches inspired by the 20th-century Art Nouveau movement of Paris. The main dining room highlights a massive curved bar with a metal top imported from Paris, a signature piece of Boucherie.

    There was a full wad of paper in my French onion soup. After telling the staff, we were told that it was paper used to keep the onions warm? We then proceeded to wait a full hour for our next course. Overall, the experience and service was mediocre and disappointing for valentines.

    Went for Valentine’s Day. The food was exceptional but it took 30 min to get our apps, then another 30 to get our entrees. Food was amazing but for $125, felt over priced for the 3 courses. Overall enjoyed the experience and the beautiful restaurant.

    Great place. Pre fixed menu for Valentine’s Day but the food quality was still there. They had a sommelier that was amazing and paired wine with our meal. The actual waitress wasn’t the best but you can’t have it all.

    Restaurant was nice, service was great. We were there for Valentines, they had a pre-fix menu. It was $175 per person, food was being massed produced, order everything up front, felt rushed, we were there probably a total of 45 minutes. Definitely not worth the price tag, I wish we would have went somewhere else.

    We had high hopes for this newly opened fine dining spot, but unfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations. Our reservation was at 7:45 PM, and we were seated promptly within five minutes—so far, so good. Our server was helpful in guiding us through the menu and informed us that we needed to place our entire order (appetizer, main course, and dessert) at once, though the dishes would arrive in the correct sequence. However, this is where things started to go downhill. After placing our order, drinks arrived in just a few minutes, which was great. But then, within a minute, our dessert was brought to the table—before we had even received our appetizers. We had to send it back, explaining that we hadn’t even started the meal yet. Shortly after, our appetizers arrived, and the food itself was quite good. But while we were still enjoying them, our main course—a steak—was brought out less than five minutes later. My fiancé had barely touched her appetizer, and I had just finished mine. To make things worse, our server had just placed bread and butter on the table. Given that this is not a fast-food restaurant, we asked for a few minutes to enjoy our appetizers at a reasonable pace. This is where the service completely collapsed. Five minutes passed. Then 15. Then 30. Then 45. Still no sign of our main courses, and our server didn’t check on us or acknowledge the delay. Eventually, I flagged down a random host and asked to speak with the manager. The manager apologized and claimed they were remaking our meals. However, when the food finally arrived—over an hour later—it was clear that they had simply brought back the same dishes that had been sitting in the kitchen all that time. The steak was ice-cold, tough, and inedible. By this point, it was 9:30 PM. Frustrated and still hungry, we informed the manager that we were leaving. The way both the server and the manager handled the situation was just as disappointing as the meal itself.

    Even though, we booked a month in advance, they gave us a table squeezed in with others. It almost felt like dining with the table next door, so close. Food quality was not worth the money. French onion soup was the only good thing from their $125 fixed menu. Steaks were not good quality and not cooked well. My husband’s ribeye was half an inch thick and almost raw. French fries were greasy. Desserts were not delicious. Their “profiterole” was ice cream sandwich with chocolate drizzle. After paying close to $500 with wine pairing, we got nothing in return. I don’t know if they were a good quality restaurant at some point but now your neighborhood restaurant would be much better option to this place. Only good thing was the live music band playing last night.

    They brought a salad to the table with pecans, despite being told of an allergy to tree nuts. They also brought food to the table with no utensils multiple times and had to be asked to bring utensils, which took way too long. The food was ok. Not as good as the first time we were there. The ambience was beautiful. It’s a pretty place to eat. We went for Valentine’s night, which was crowded.

    Service was very efficient and didn’t have to wait long between courses. Drinks arrived in a prompt amount of time, ambiance was very luxurious, and the server Emily was attentive and friendly. Table in the corner lacked decent leg space for 2 tall people such as ourselves. But we didn’t complain since we knew it’s busy b/c of Valentine’s Day and luckily the table next to us was very understanding when we would stretch our legs out a bit. Would certainly come back. Only a small bit of constructive feedback, which is that the support staff should ask if you are finished with a drink before trying to clear it. I had to elevate my voice to let a gentleman know that I wasn’t done with my drink before he tried to run off with it. Other than that, a great time!

    First time at La Grande Boucherie and was very disappointed. We went for Valentines Day and from the beginning it was unpleasant. Someone that arrived after us claimed our table. The hosts print out a piece of paper with your name on it while you’re waiting to be seated. The person said their name was mine so we had to sort that out with the staff who were confused. They need a new system for that. Then we were seated in crammed section with tables six inches apart, so that was awkward. It took 20 minutes just to receive our drink order. The live music was super loud and reverberated off the walls which made it hard to have any conversation. The food was decent but certainly not worth $400 between two people. I got enticed to have dinner here b/c the building is very elegant and special. Foolish me. They also did nothing special for you to celebrate Valentines Day. Just some rose petals. What a missed opportunity. Very mid. Won’t be coming back here ever again. P.S. it’s weird that they email you asking for your credit card information that you have to email back with a signature. Need a new system for that too.
