A truly classic pub which has so much history, we even feature in the Dickens novel "Great expectations". This pub is a true gem - on a sunny day, enjoy the outside area near the sea; in winter, settle down by our real fireplace in the warm and cosy pub. Came for the quiz, and it was a wonderful atmosphere and experience. The two waitresses were excellent and couldn’t have asked for a better evening.

Went for lunch atmosphere was lovely, it is a lovely looking pub. Was served quickly had a pint of peroni and a espresso martini. Was made well. Food came hot, looked and smelt great, I ordered the hunters chicken with fries and my partner had ribeye steak m/rare, steak was cooked perfectly and my hunters chicken was great tho could do with being a little bigger. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely be coming back

Came for lunch with friends, was lovely little restaurant, I had a chicken avocado sandwich, was lovely and tasty, very filling. Had a lovely cocktail made by the bar staff aparol spritz. The staff was busy but found the time to help us make decisions on what to have. Dessert was lovely had the cheese cake it was perfect. Will definitely be returning

Went on a Thursday for food tasted great and was served quickly. I had the gammon which was very filling. The two young girls working that day was lovely and very helpful. The location was hidden and a interesting. Enjoyed the history of the building. Will return

We will never go back!! A few of the starters were unavailable, so I opted for the chicken terrien, unfortunately it was tasteless, i think someone in the kitchen was warming the lightly toasted bread between there hands as it clearly hadn't seen a toaster, but the chutney was nice. We ordered a steak and kidney pie and a lasagne, when the first meal was delivered we were advised that the steak and kidney pie was going to be beef, when the pie was brought out of the kitchen the waitress told it was actually beef and mushroom, not what was ordered, but a nice substitute, what we actually got was a bowl of slop with a chunk of mince meat in the middle, one slice of mushroom and a puff pastry top, I suppose you can loosely call that a pie. As the lasagne was plonked down in front of us, we were told that they had run out of garlic bread, we was offered some chips as a substitute, the chips never arrived, we then didn't see a waitress for about 30 minutes, I guess they knew how bad the food was and didn't want to face us. I did mention the chips, the waitress did apologise and offered to get some cooked, I didn't really fancy them half hour after my dinner. I don't know why we thought the deserts would be any good, but they couldn't be any worse, the brownie looked as though it was a bit stodgy and had gone very hard but the apple crumble was good and the ice cream was perfect!! A birthday meal out to forget!!

An excellent venue! The food is of good quality & price. The staff are friendly and accomodating and provide an excellent service to diners. We will certainly return on our next visit.
