Located in San Francisco’s Design District, Niku Steakhouse is a meat-focused restaurant, highlighting an in-house dry aging program, exclusive cuts of coveted Japanese A5 wagyu with an emphasis on wood fired cooking.

Niku, by the Omakase Restaurant Group, hosts a dining room oriented around a roaring custom binchotan charcoal and wood-fired grill, where guests watch as Executive Chef Dustin Falcon (Lazy Bear, The French Laundry) and his team prepare steaks to perfection. At Niku, there is a true marriage of American and Japanese sensibilities. Falcon’s cooking is driven by the terroir of Northern California — which finds its way onto the menu through foraged ingredients and products from local farmers — met with the highest quality domestic and A5 Japanese Beef.

                                                      It’s for my son’s bday. Environment is nice, Love the service, the staff will explain the menu well. Food are good as expected. Good portion! They even gave my son a handwritten birthday card!!

                                                      The food and drinks are amazing at Niku! We really enjoyed our steaks, the pig ears, and all of the sides. The cocktails were very good and the bartenders were extremely friendly. We sat at the bar because our table wasn’t quite ready and the bartenders gave us some good recommendations from the menu. There are a few improvements needed. First, our service could have been much better. Our server had long gray hair and he was nice. His speeches felt canned and he rushed us through service. I was upset that he was making me order my glass of wine for the steak when our appetizer had just come out and I was only half way through my first drink. Never fun to have a wine that doesn’t need to breathe sit out in it’s glass during the dinner. He was often not paying attention to us, so we would often get the things we needed from a nice other server who was a delight. When dessert came, we were disappointed by the apple dessert. It tasted bland and definitely had no hint of apple. For the price, there were needed improvements, but overall a nice experience.

                                                      We decided to dine at Niku for NYE and was surprised that there wasn’t a pre-fix or special menu. There wasn’t appealing music to set the ambiance either. We’ve dined at several Michelin restaurants that offered this for NYE. The wait staff was impeccable and did upsell when feasible. I wasn’t too impressed with the NY Strip steak however; the Wagyu was tender and literally melted in my mouth. The sides were underwhelming with the exception of the broccolini. I personally felt at their prices the food and ambiance could have been better.

                                                      The food is always fantastic with very attentive service. We celebrated NYE at Niku, and it did not disappoint. We were lucky enough to be seated in the back room. Thanks again Niku!!

                                                      We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Niku Steakhouse. We enjoyed sitting at the chef table. Everything and everyone was top notch. We started with a fabulous cocktail. The Chicory salad and beef tartare were so delicious ! Then we had the wagyu tasting, the petite filet, ( with the wine pairing) the Wagyu fat potatoes and ended with …. Wagyu fat brownie. Decadent and exemplary in every way. We’d highly recommend and look forward to going back.

                                                      My experience was a let down if I am being honest. First of all, the menu is EXTREMELY limited for a steak house! As if that’s not enough, they use peanut oil for quite a few items on the menu, there by taking away options from the already limited menu! My guest who is severely allergic to peanut couldn’t have much at the restaurant. In this day and age, that is a complete NO NO! Also, the portions were VERY SMALL!! Definitely not a place you go if you are very hungry. The drinks were okay, service was very good. I won’t be going back. Not a bad restaurant just not for me. The experience I had was disappointing. Going to Nikki left me apologizing to my out of town guest profusely, even after spending more than $700 there! Unacceptable
