Nixtamal is a traditional maiz process that has been a staple for Mexican food since the Mesoamerican cultures. Born in San Antonio, Texas, Nixtamali Molino + Comedor is a unique Mexican culinary experience bringing flavors from different regions of Mexico like: Mexico City, Yucatan, Oaxaca among other Northern regions of Mexico.

Over the years, the value of corn has deteriorated, and our main objective is to revive and maintain this value in Mexican gastronomy. Nixtamali Molino Comedor is an authentic and regional Mexican cuisine in the United States. More than a restaurant, we offer an experience that takes you to Mexico with its flavors and, with the nixtamal process, to pre-Hispanic times.

The first thing we noticed after sitting down was the noise level. Blaring mariachi style music forced diners to shout to be heard and there is zero noise dampening material on the walls or ceiling. The menu was very difficult to read due to extremely small font…(I had to use the magnifier on my smart phone to read!) The $18 Margarita would have fit in two standard shot glasses and the food was very average considering the $30+ average price per meal. Additionally, while our server was very pleasant, the service was very slow considering we were one of only 4-5 small groups in the entire restaurant. Our one and only visit to this poorly run establishment!

We had a great meal at Nixtamali. The guacamole was delicious, and they are masters of masa, with delicious chips and tortillas. Loved the cochinita pibil and the tostadas de pulpo, and the tacos and green mole were wonderful. Even dessert was fabulous! Highly recommend.

Everything was just lovely! Our server, Andrea, was exceptional. Our group of 18 dined last minute after my daughter’s graduation, and they were very accommodating. The food and drinks were so good! But I can’t say enough about the service—truly outstanding. I highly recommend this place and plan to visit again on my next trip to San Antonio.

Our waitress Andrea was amazing. The staff was friendly and attentive. I order the pollo al carbon and my partner orders the chicken enchiladas with mole Both were good not great. The mole was excellent. The only reason the food was not great is because it was served lukewarm warm. That’s a real turn off for me. I like my meals hot. Not cold in the middle.

Excellent flavors on the dishes. Only gripe I had was I asked for medium rare steak but I received a very well done steak. I was too hungry to ask for another one plus I didn’t want to feel like my party needed to wait for my food to be out.

I could sit here and write a two page review, but I’ll make this very simple. GO EAT HERE NOW!! It checks all the boxes. It would be hard for me to tell you what was my favorite was BUT I would say the ribeye tacos may be the winner. Honestly it would be like trying to pick a favorite child. lol. Service was fantastic, loved the environment and food was beyond. My father lives in Mexico so I could tell you from experience this is the real deal. Enjoy!

The service was warm, customer centered and detail oriented. The food was created using the finest ingredients. The chef and staff demonstrated tremendous skill in the preparation as the taste and presentation reflected this. The staff was very tuned into each customer. The ambiance was intimate and had a warmth of a small restaurant yet the food and service of a 5 star dining experience.

I so wanted to love this place, but it fell short on flavor and very short on value. Three round chips (seriously) for two people for sharing salsas? Unacceptable even for “free.” An additional 3 totopos would have been $2.99. Nope. The featured masa, while nixtamalized and ground on site, was under seasoned on every dish adding little to the overall appeal. The octopus ($17.99) on the tostada was tough and chewy and, again, under seasoned as was the ribeye on the three little street tacos ($29.99). Between the underwhelming flavors and the overwhelming prices, I’m sad to say it does not inspire a return visit.
