                                                                                                                    We appreciated the historic, retro feeling at Original Joe's, but the food was a bit disappointing. Cacio e Pepe was a very large serving of fettuccine sized pasta with a sauce that seemed more like garlic alfredo. My husband was looking forward to trying a chef-made Cacio e Pepe from a restaurant; it turns out he likes my homemade dish better. The various seafood types in the Fritto Misto all tasted the same. The breaded fried caper berries were fabulous bits of brine though. It was meant as a shared appetizer so too large as an entree for one. The sourdough bread was very good and a nice touch for a traditional San Francisco italian restaurant. We tried the Zero Proof Negroni. The imprinted (Santa Claus?) large ice cube was a nice touch. The whole restaurant was bustling busy and pretty loud on a Saturday for brunch/lunch. It took more than 30 minutes to be served our meal, so we felt a little rushed to get to the theatre. My husband "boycotts" restaurants that serve veal. He made an exception for me this time because the place is so famous and it was so convenient to Club Fugazi, but we won't be back because veal is on the menu.

                                                                                                                    My wife and I joined two close friends for dinner recently. The noise level was so loud that we had great difficulty carrying on any conversation whatsoever. This was our annual holiday get together and dinner so we had a lot to talk about - but this was impossible! The starter mixed greens salad was great. My wife's and friends' meal was otherwise mediocre. They mentioned that the food was too salty. I had the filet of sole with capers - this dish was also extremely salty and interfered with the enjoyment of my meal. It didn't help my hypertention! All in all, the whole event was pretty mediocre at best, although the visual atmosphere was stunning. The waitress and service were fine. and the prices were less than we expected. However, we will not go back there again.
