Inspired by Italy’s aperitivo hour, when public squares and streets are filled with lively conversation, Portico serves handmade and authentic Italian fare in Sebastopol in western Sonoma County.

A portico is a colonnade or covered walkway in classical architecture. Since the middle ages the elegant porticos of Bologna, Italy have a meeting place for the public as well as a place for business. Paolo Pedrinazzi (who is from Bologna) and Kat Escamilla, owners of the new Portico trattoria , bring this experience to Sebastopol. They even have monthly Regional dinner parties with live jazz.

The setting includes an Italian fountain on their cozy patio. Portico offers light table service and counter ordering. Excellent Italian wines are sold in the restaurant at retail pricing; refreshingly unpretentious. The menu features an array of antipasti, handmade egg pasta, gluten free risottos, Bolognese lasagna, tiramisu, and baked goods . A market in the front is stocked with take-n-bake entrees

The absolute best vegetarian lasagne ever!! Light, fluffy, flavorful. We bought an extra one to go!

The food is amazing with all kinds of wonderful flavors. The wine menu is priced just right. The owners are great to chat with as well as the other patrons. Certainly a home town atmosphere with elevated food and wine. A great choice in Sebastopol.

Portico reflects all of the qualities of a small Italian restaurant in Italy, short, concise menu with food to match, house made pasta and sauces, just two or three ingredients, modest size serving, no big pile of pasta in a bowl but plenty to eat and modest prices reflect the servings. Terrific Barrata and small, focused wine list also well priced, no diet Coke. We couldn't believe that we'd never heard of the place and now it will be on our regular rotation.

My husband and I came here for a date night and had the best time. We sat outside by the fountain which was super cute. The pasta and gnocchi are made in house and were absolutely fantastic - generous portions and we ate the whole thing. Loved the wine list too. We will definitely be back!

Can't beat the hand made pasta and flatbreads at Portico. Staff and owners are always very nice and welcoming and attentive. It's one of our favorite restaurants and we go regularly.
