Accessed from the High Street and through a glass lobby, Quod restaurant with its terrace and bar, forms the hub of the Old Bank Hotel. Formerly a banking hall it was transformed by owner Jeremy Mogford to become Oxford's largest and most successful restaurant. Stylish, contemporary design describes the space which houses an amazing collection of young British art. Sandra Blow, Craigie Aitchinson and Gary Hume adorn the walls. There is a spectacular terrace where diners can enjoy a morning coffee, the superb value two course lunch or a cocktail.

Quod and the Old Bank Hotel have a large secure private car park and is accessed via an automated barrier. Priority is given to hotel guests though spaces are readily available throughout the weekdays.

Coaches and trains provide regular services to and from destinations across the UK and there is a direct coach service to London every nine minutes. Coach stops are a couple of minutes walk along the High Street and Oxford Train Station is around 20 minutes walk away.

Afternoon Tea in Quod

Take part in the most traditional English pastime of afternoon tea in the heart of Oxford. With its large windows looking onto the famous colleges, Quod is the perfect stopping point during a walk of the city. Enjoy classic egg & cress or ham and mustard sandwiches, homemade scones with clotted cream and jam and a cup of tea or perhaps a glass of champagne. In the summer months tea can be taken on our recently refurbished Italian garden terrace.

The place itself is pleasant, with a good atmosphere. However, the food was unremarkable. We opted for the set menu, which included an anchovy salad with boiled egg and gem lettuce, as well as pork belly and sole for the mains. The salad lacked both elaboration and presentation, the pork belly was overcooked, though the sole was well-prepared. Service charges are included in the bill, which I found unnecessary. While many people praise QUOD for its “posh” reputation, I didn’t find anything particularly special about it—though it is certainly popular among “posh” British patrons.

The food is great. We have been here a number of times. We were happy with both food and services in particular couple of the staff are highly commendable for their services and hospitality.
