Sagardi Basque Country Chefs is part of SAGARDI GROUP, a large restaurant group championing Basque Gastronomy since 1996, founded by Chef Iñaki López de Viñaspre.

London is the 30th restaurant to launch and is situated in the centre of one of London's most bustling food and drink hubs, Shoreditch.

Simple, healthful cooking including meat and fish grilled over hot coals, marmitako stews, txistorra sausage, Idiazabal sheep’s cheese, “txipirones” (baby squid) and “roxario” salted cod omelette.

If you take your steak as seriously as the Basques do, relish in the restaurants premium red meat Txuleton (chuleton in Spanish) or Txuleta; enormous rib steaks from fattened, old cows that have lived in complete freedom with a 100% natural diet (min 6 years old).

Boasting an array of crafted beverages, a collection of over 200 wines, exquisite champagne, G&T´s, cocktails, traditional Basque vermouth and cider, trendy “perron” glasses and the famous TXAKOLI.

Chef Iñaki Lopez de Viñaspre has created a tantalising set lunch menu consisting of four authentic pintxos that give homage to the Basque Country. Available in our bar, Monday to Saturday, 12pm-5pm.

    You only get one choice, but it’s a good one: Dry-aged boneless "Txuleton" beef, served with beef dripping roast potatoes, a selection of seasonal vegetables from our Basque Country gardens, homemade Yorkshire puddings and signature gravy.     I wouldn't go again... We booked the "Experience" option via OpenTable and received a confirmation email. However, upon arrival, we were informed that this option was only valid on Sundays, a detail that was not clear during the booking process... No alternative solution or compensation was offered, which was disappointing. Simply unprofessional. Additionally, having recently undergone knee surgery and with inclement weather outside, I was looking for a relaxed dining experience. We chose the £76 per person menu expecting a high quality meal. While the bread and meat were quite good, the fish omelette and other dishes fell short in flavour and overall quality.

    The food was decent, but given the price, it didn’t seem worth it. Unfortunately, most of us ended up getting sick after dining at the restaurant, which lasted for a few days, so it definitely wasn’t the best experience. Additionally, the service was lacking – we had to make a real effort to get the staff’s attention.

    So where to start with this one; As a regular at both Gaucho and Hawksmoor I was intrigued to try Sagardi, with its much lauded Basque steak and to see if it lived up to the rather dubiously high ratings. The place itself is a bare brick, heavy wood and wrought iron detailing type place, loud music and no table clothes; so think upscale pub. The menu is inviting and the range of wines is good as you’d expect from a steakhouse. My wife opted for a steak tartare and I tried the Iberico ham with some sour dough. The steak tartare was clean, and well balanced, perhaps a smidge too many diced pickles, but a solid starter. The Iberico ham, was dry and fibrous, those used to shopping at Brindisa (in Borough market ) or Casa Manolo for their Pata Negra and that hit of sumptuous nutty flavour will be disappointed. The accompanying sourdough was cold, as in cold store cold and so both Jambon and bread were a disappointment. For mains we went for 1150 gram of the txuleton beef from an older animal, which was touted as having a more rich complex flavour. We took a side of potato wedges and mixed vegetables. Upon arrival the steak is served sliced next to the bone, and visually at least is impressive. However from this point on things went down hill. The steak itself was cold, leathery and extremely chewy, over salted and for its weight yielded a paltry amount of actual meat. The wedges had clearly had a dip in cold oil as they were stodgy on the outside and bullet hard on the inside; rather than a crispy triumph; the mixed vegetables were good. We were able to lubricate ourselves and the beef bubblegum with a solid South African Shiraz which helped. Service was so so glimpses of enthusiasm with longer periods of mild neglect. In conclusion then a pub like atmosphere sub par pub food sold at top end prices

    A bit pricey considering the ambience and all round experience. The beef is great but sides could really be improved. The grilled fish looks excellent so will try that next time
