Salut Bar Américain is the brasserie down the block. Warm and welcoming, with an urbane wit and urban sensibility, it’s an afternoon hangout and an evening refuge. It’s your neighbor with a French accent. The setting evokes a classic Parisian bistro/restaurant. The service is spirited, confident and capably executed.     Salut is cute. A little kitchy for a French-themed restaurant, but fun none the less. We were seated toward the back and it was warm, quieter than the front, and comfortable. Our party of 4 was there to celebrate three birthdays in the group. The service was great. Cocktails were lovely and just as we expected. The following food was great and we'd absolutely order it again: Pomme frites, french onion soup, steak frites, escargot. The beef bouguignon was super flavorful, some of the beef was just slightly overcooked (dry). The tuna nicoise was okay -- very interesting and different than expected (it included asparagus and green beans and did not include anchovies, which we expected would come as standard to that dish). Wouldn't order the tuna nicoise again if you're looking for the classic version. The free / complimentary birthday profiteroles were generous in size and came delivered to the table with festive sparklers. The chocolate mousse is a generous portion, and after a full meal, should be shared -- so rich and delicious. We all agreed we would be happy to return to Salut. Note: I wouldn't order the house wine. Pay the few extra bucks for a nicer glass. :)

    I haven't always loved this place. For one thing, it's not necessarily a good "value." But lunch today was really very good, in particular the two-fish duet entree. So Salut has moved up a notch for me.

    Server didn’t come by much. We were in bar booth and she was serving in the restaurant. Shaved ham in omelette was not worth the $$$. Quality has gone down at Salut.

    We were there for my best friend’s birthday. Our waiter confirmed no onions was in an entree that she had ordered. But, it came out with onions. She had to reorder her dinner and plus the dessert he recommended and described was a “cobbler” which didn’t turn out to be. Overall, our dinner and experience was good. We would have appreciated our waiter to have been more knowledgeable about describing accurately what the entrees and desserts were. We would come back again for the happy hour food and mocktails.

    We are fans of Salut. Love the mussels. The French dip had tasty au jus but the horseradish could be spicier. The calamari was good but they mixed it in with onions so you didn’t get much for what you paid for.
